There are many ways to reduce everyday expenses without sacrificing quality of life. The following are some simple suggestions for saving money in different areas of daily living. Entertainment Try out cheaper entertainment. Instead of going out to a restaurant, why not a picnic? It will be much cheaper and healthier. Only go to the movies on discount days or at a cheaper theatre. Consider a streaming service instead of a full cable package. Many services now offer movies, shows, and even live TV for a lower monthly cost than cable. You may not need cable at all. Bicycle rides are cheaper than drives. Hosting a get together at home is often cheaper than going out to a bar with friends. Get in the habit of visiting your local parks and being friendly with the people there. Get to know your neighbours. Overcome social stigmas and stereotypes if you have to, and meet people locally instead of spending money on bars and clubs, along with the hangover that often follows. Spirituality Try to attend a place of worship close to your home, ideally within walking distance. If you cannot get along with the people at a place of worship near you because of race, culture, or other personal differences, and instead drive or rely on rides to somewhere across town just to attend services, you may be missing the point of worship in the first place. Do the things that matter to you, even if that means attending alone or waiting until you find a community that fits. This approach can also save money that might otherwise go toward alcohol, cigarettes, comfort food, or related medical costs down the road. Share Carpool to work. Once your children have outgrown their clothes, keep the ones in good condition and pass them on to family members. Accept gently used, still presentable children's clothing offered by relatives and friends. The same applies to strollers and car seats. Re-gift Received a gift you do not need? Give it to someone else instead of throwing it away. If you do not have a friend to pass it to, leave it somewhere visible, such as your porch or a community area, where a neighbour might pick it up. You might end up making a new friend in the process.
