Fear attempts to instill a deep sense of terror in the caster's foes, in hopes that the creatures will run away instead of mauling the caster and his friends. However, it is against the nature of many monsters to fear mere humans, and the Fear spell is often unable to affect their psyche sufficiently to create the desired effect.
