Slovakia 3 The first meters exclusive to Slovakia came into use in 1939 when the Slovak area of Czechoslovakia declared itself independent. After World War 2 and the reformation of Czechoslovakia, separate stamps for Slovakia were discontinued. In 1993 when Czechoslovakia voluntarily reformed as two independent states (Slovakia and the Czech Republic) Slovak stamps again came into use. All stamps show “SLOVENSKO” in the frank. For issues between 1945 and 1993, see CZECHOSLOVAKIA. The stamps are grouped according to political conditions at time of introduction: A - Independence between 1939 and 1945 B - Stamps introduced since independence in 1993 NOTE: A few machines with unchanged Czechoslovak inscription were used for a short period after the re-birth of Slovakia in 1993. blue GROUP A: Stamps issued after Slovakia declared independence from Czechoslovakia in 1939 3 blue The franks have diagonal indents at sides and semi-circular projections at top and bottom. left|505px A1.
