Stafford gambit with 5. d3 C42 Stafford gambit → 5. d3 → 5..Bc5
6. Nc3?
6. Nc3? looks like a normal developing move. However, it is a mistake as it allows Black to play 6...Ng4!.
6...Ng4! threatens the pawn on f2. The only move to defend it is 7. Be3, though Black can take on e3 with their knight and then bishop, recovering the pawn. 7...Nxe3 8. fxe3 Bxe3-. Black is now even in material but holds a comfortable advantage because the bishop and threat of the queen swinging over prevents White from castling.
9. Qf3 is the continuation, but White must be mindful of other traps, e.g. 9. Qf3 Bd4 10. O-O-O? (thinking the king is best out of danger on the queen's side) Qg5+! 11. Kb1 Bg4 (pins queen to rook) 12. Qg3 (pins bishop to queen) Be5---.
