English Opening: Anglo-Dutch Defence
1...f5
Black plays in similar fashion to the Dutch Defence, controlling the e4 pawn with the f-pawn. Named the Anglo-Dutch Defence, this offbeat response to the English Opening mimics 1. d4 f5 and can transpose to it regularly.
White can choose from a variety of responses, such as:
2. d4, transposing to the Dutch Defence
2. Nc3, developing the queenside knight
2. Nf3, developing the kingside knight
2. g3, preparing to fianchetto the f1 bishop
2. b3, preparing to fianchetto the c1 bishop
2. Qc2, attacking the pawn on f5 with the queen
2. e4!?, the Hickmann Gambit
2. g4!?, the Wade Gambit
