Due to Bishop Ruperto Cruz Santos became fifth Bishop of Antipolo on July 22, 2023, Pope Francis appointed Archbishop Florentino Galang Lavarias, Archbishop of San Fernando, Pampanga since October 27, 2014, as the diocese's sede vacante apostolic administrator or temporary bishop where he served that position until March 1, 2025 for 3 calendar years and 589 days.
During Lavarias' stint as temporary bishop, he served the wake and funeral of Msgr. Antonio Dumaual from July 22 to 31, 2023. He made ordinations during that period due to him being an archbishop. On July 2024, Lavarias' as apostolic administrator now became the diocese's longest vacancy surpassing Dumaual's 11 month stint as administrator from August 28, 2003 to July 3, 2004 between Bishops Honesto Flores Ongtioco and Socrates Buenaventura Villegas in office as Bishop of Balanga. Also during that period, various parts of Balanga Cathedral including the altar and cathedra were painted in yellow and gold as a preparation for the diocese's 50th golden anniversary.
On December 3, 2024, Pope Francis appointed Rufino Coronel Sescon, Jr. as fifth Bishop of Balanga. Preparations for the installation were made on February 2025 when Sescon's coat of arms were placed on the cathedra and cathedral aisle or floor and changing the color of the cathedra from orange to red and also his coat of arms was unveiled on that month. Sescon became the diocese's fifth bishop upon his installation on March 1, 2025, ending Lavarias' tenure as administrator and sede vacante period between Santos and Sescon, Jr. Sixteen days after Sescon, Jr. became bishop, the diocese's 50th anniversary was held through a concelebrated mass with the papal nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Charles John Brown.
Sescon, Jr. served during the death and funeral of Pope Francis from April 21 to 26, 2025 and the subsequent ascencion of Pope Leo XIV to papacy on May 8, 2025. Also on the same month as Pope Leo XIV became pope, the cross design of the cathedra from August 2015 during the tenure of Sescon's predecessor Bishop Ruperto Cruz Santos was removed, leaving it only pure red color like with Santos' design of the cathedra from July 2010 to August 2015.
