Ido is a constructed language created in the early 20th century. It was developed collaboratively by linguists, logicians, natural scientists and other scholars from the Delegation for the Adoption of an International Auxiliary Language, building upon the foundations of Esperanto, aiming to become a language more suited to international communication. Compared to its predecessor, Esperanto, Ido has introduced significant reforms, such as gender-neutral nouns, simplified pronunciation, compatible orthography and the reduction of grammatical redundancy, making it a more scientific and natural language.
Much of Ido's vocabulary is derived from the major Indo-European languages. If the reader has a knowledge of English, Spanish, French, German, Italian or Latin, it will be easier to understand the terms and grammar. For unfamiliar words, the reader could consult Wiktionary or the Glosbe dictionary.
This guide has been written to help beginners quickly understand and master the rigorous and elegant grammar of Ido. Translators are welcome to localise this guide into other languages at any time, and contributions to revise or expand the content are also welcome. After all, bona chanco (good luck)!
