5. Nxf6 · Caro-Kann Tartakower Variation
5. Nxf6 is almost always played, weakening black's pawn structure.
5...exf6, the Korchnoi Variation is regarded as more sound, although 5...gxf6, the Bronstein-Larsen Variation, was widely used by Bent Larsen in the 1970s, and Black has an open g-file and the possibility of Bh6 as compensation.
