Cello Handbook/Shifting
Reference material by Wikibooks contributors. This retains its source identity and is not 411 news reporting.
Shifting is the act of moving your left, or fingering hand up and down the neck of the cello. Your left hand remains in the same position as it would at the base location, but the location is just shifted up and down the neck. This is done for convenience as well as making it easier to play higher notes on the a string.
