This chapter introduces the narrator, a teacher with no financial planning background. As a college grad, he is surprised when he fails a basic financial planning quiz in the newspaper. The narrator's sister, Cathy, is also mentioned, a small business owner who makes a lot of money but who also spends a lot of money on a high standard of living.
