#CC0099 6 Educational Reform: Chapter Introduction center www.flickr.com/creativecommons Regardless of who you ask, most will agree that the U.S. public schools need reform. Teacher pay is low, schools are over-budget, and funding is being lost. As a result, many teachers are being over-loaded with too many students in their classrooms. Students are not being adequately prepared for a future in our modern and ever-changing 21st Century. The education system should be improved to better serve our students. Educational reform is needed. It is not a task that can be taken lightly nor will change happen over night. It will require a massive effort from everyone involved in the education system including the government, school administrators as well as teachers and aides. While exploring this chapter, the reader will become aware of many issues facing Educational Reform. These issues include magnet and charter schools, vouchers, home schooling and the No Child Left Behind Act. The reader will also learn about the effects of educational reform in the classroom and the effects that school has on a child's life. This chapter explains the 1983 "Nation at Risk" document as well as the controversial issue of corporate sponsored schools. After reading this chapter, the reader will have a much better understanding of some of the issues surrounding educational reform. Alucy001 (talk) 14:44, 5 July 2009 (UTC) 1 1006
