Numerals are function words that indicate quantity. Ido has thirteen numerals:

Express Numbers
To express a number, we combine numerals. The order in which they are stated goes from the highest value to the lowest: we start with the thousands, then the hundreds, followed by the tens and finally the units. If a place-value contains no digit (i.e. if it is zero), it is not mentioned. Each place value is represented by a word, formed by combining the words that denote the different values.
To form numbers consisting of two or more digits, follow this rule: join the digits (from the smallest to the largest) with the letter "a".
For example, 30,000 is said "Tri-a-dek-a-mil", which literally means "Three times ten thousand". It is usually written as "Triadekamil" without the hyphen.
To link different numbers, use the conjunction "e", which indicates addition.
For example, 42 is said "Quaradek e du".
To express a decimal number, you first read the whole number, then add a "komo" (comma) before reading the decimal places one by one.
For example, 3.14 is said "Tri komo un quar".

Express the Quantity
Numbers are placed before the noun to indicate quantity. The noun must change its ending (singular or plural) depending on the number.
For example, "La tri kati" (The three cats).
Express an Order
To express an order, you can place the number after the noun phrase or turn the number into an adjective. To turn a number into an ordinal adjective, add the suffix "esm" after the number and end with the ending "a".
For example, "chapitro quaradek e du" (chapter forty-two) and "quaradek e duesma chapitro" (the forty-second chapter)
