It has 2 lateral hooks at 20 inches from its bottom and 8 inches from the rear wall to the hooks.
It has one rear hook located in the center of the rear wall of the locker and 10 inches above the locker bottom.
In this project, we will use a plywood surface to create an interior shelf, using the two built-in hooks on the lateral inner walls and the hook located on the rear wall of the locker.
Locker Dimensions and Description
Metallic locker with the following dimensions:
30 inches high
13 inches wide
The locker has two lateral hooks located 20 inches from the bottom of the locker and 8 inches from the rear wall.
It also has one rear hook located at the center of the rear wall of the locker, 10 inches above the locker bottom.
The shelf design consists of a rectangle measuring 12.5 × 11 inches with three holes: two lateral holes that will be supported by the two side metallic hooks, and one rear hole that will receive the vertical support, which will be supported by the rear metallic hook.
This particular locker has three holders on each side and one holder on the rear wall. These will be used to support the divider.
Width: 12.5 inches
Depth: 11.5 inches
There are three metallic hook holders on each side wall of the locker.
The height of the lateral metallic hooks is not necessary, since the design does not require touching the locker base.
The locker dimensions are 12.5 inches wide.
Shelf dimensions and Description
For this purpose, we will create a file using Inkscape or Illustrator. Using the curvature tool, we will work in inches and use a canvas larger than 13 inches.
First, create a square by placing four dots, connecting the last dot to the first. Then, adjust the X and Y values for each dot.
For this purpose, we will create a file using the Pen tool (Inkscape) or the Curvature tool (Illustrator). We will use inches as units and a canvas larger than 13 inches.
First make a square making 4 dots, the last one will be connected to the initial dot, then we will modify the (X,Y) values for each dot.
Dot X Y Left upper dot 1 1 Right upper dot 13.5 1 Left lower dot 1 12.5 Right lower dot 13.5 12.5
When we select the square, we will see that the width of the square is 12.5 inches and the height of the square (or shelf) is 11.5 inches. These are the measurements we need because the shelf is longer from the rear side to the front (12.5 inches) than from wall to wall (11.5 inches), taking into consideration that we started the square at position X = 1, Y = 1.
Support circles
Now we will add circles to allow the lateral hooks hold the shelf, since we know the distance from rear wall to the hooks and the latera wall to the end of the hooks (2 inches), we will create a circle with a diameter of 1.5 inches, and we will use this central dot to adjust the position of the circle, select the center of the circle and use the following coordinates.
Right circle
The circles will allow the hooks to hold the shelf. The first circle will have the following coordinates and dimensions:
x y w (wide) h (high) 7 2.5 1.5 1.5
Left circle
We will repeat a similar step for the circle on the bottom side. Draw a circle that is 1.5 inches wide and 1.5 inches high.
Coordinates for the second circle: X will remain 7, while Y will change. This time the Y value will be 12, since it is located 1 inch away from the lateral wall. The values of the circle will be:

Now we can round the edges of the shelf. To do this, select the square and apply rounding (see the section Inkscape and Illustrator for laser cutting).
Rear entry for the vertical support
An additional hole can be added in the back of the shelf to allow the vertical support to enter. The hole should be 2.5 inches long and 0.28 inches wide (the width of the plywood used).
Since the lower side of the square is at X = 13.5 and the upper side is at X = 1, and the length is 12.5 inches, the center is located by dividing 12.5 by 2 and adding 1. This gives 7.25.
Create a rectangle. The square will be 0.7 inches from the rear wall (or the beginning of the shelf). The values will be:
Create a square drawing 4 dots and modify its x, y values:
Dot x y Left upper dot 0.7 8.75 Right upper dot 0.96 8.75 Right lower dot 0.96 5.75 Left lower dot 0.7 5.75
Rounding the square
The shelf is now complete, but it may be unstable. We can add a vertical support to stabilize the shelf and hold it in position.
Vertical support
To create this vertical support, we will measure the distance between the bottom of the rear hook and the level of the shelf when it is placed on the hooks. In this case, the distance is 3 inches.
We will make a vertical support that has 11 dots. It has a cross-shaped design, but with only one dot at its lower end.
For this, draw the cross-shaped design using the pen tool. It will have 11 dots; they do not need to be accurate. Unselect the Maintain Proportions option, then click the Direct Selection tool and edit the right upper dot. The dots are named, and the X and Y values are the following:
+ Vertical Support Coordinates Point Name X Value Y Value Upper right point 5 1 Upper left point 7 1 Middle left point 7 3 Left side point 8.5 3 Lower left side point 8.5 4 Lower middle left point 7 4 Bottom point 6 10 Lower right middle side point 5 4 Lower right side point 3.5 4 Right side point 3.5 3 Upper right middle point 5 3
This vertical support is designed in a cross-like shape that functions as arms, and its lower part will rest on the metallic hook. Once it is completed it can be rounded.
Hole for the rear hook: Create a circle in the center, 2 inches below the arms of the vertical support. Assign Y as 6, then select both objects and click the “Align Vertical” option, this will put the circle in the center of the vertical support.
Expansion - Adding a second shelf
As an extension, a second shelf can be added, and dividers can be placed between the two shelves to create an internal space for storing documents or other items. This will separate the bottom part of the shelf from the upper part.
Troubleshooting
Rounding corners can lead to small change of measures of the parts that touch the rounded areas. To prevent waste of material, use card box until all measures seem to be correct.
If the vertical support seems to be too big, this can be fixed creating circular hole in a higher position.
