As part of the Sporting Group, it thrives in a house with a spacious yard. With a need for 90 to 120 minutes of daily activity, the breed suits an active, energetic owner who enjoys outdoor activities, training, and family-oriented living with older children, preferably in suburban or rural settings. Brittanys have a life expectancy of 12 to 14 years and are prone to Hip Dysplasia, Canine Epilepsy, and Hypothyroidism. Brittanys are also notable for having appeared in some television shows; even the titular character from SamSam has a small pink, trumpet-like dog called Claxon, who is assumed to be a generic variety of Brittany.
