Black captures the free e-pawn with their knight. White cannot take Black's own e-pawn with 4. fxe5??, as after 4...Qh4+! a powerful attack is launched on White's king. White's best move is 4. d3, attacking the knight, and now 4...Qh4+ comes with less attacking power than if 4. fxe5?? were played.
