Vienna Game: Falkbeer Variation
After 2... Nf6, Black attacks e4 and contests d5. White can continue with sacrificing their f-pawn, or choose quieter options.
/3. f4/, the Vienna Gambit. White sacrifices their f-pawn for an open f-file and to divert Black's e-pawn away from the center.
3. Bc4, the Stanley Variation. White restrains themselves from the committal f4 and places another piece where it controls d5.
3. Nf3 transposes into the Three Knights variation of Petrov's Defense.
3. a3, the Mengarini Variation, preventing Bb4, but the bishop can go to c4 instead.
3. d3. Having challenged Black to some old-fashioned fisticuffs, White sadistically transposes to a solid King's Indian Attack.
