12. e5
White finally takes over the centre, with tempo on Black's knight.
Black's main response is 12...Nd5, trying to trade it off for White's c3 knight. Nearly all games continue 13. Nxd5 cxd5 14. Qe3. White unpins their knight and prepares Ng5 to start an attack on Black's king-side. Black has a few possible responses.
14...Be7 defends the g5-square immediately. White can however still go for 15. Ng5, initiating a trade of minor pieces and queens 15...Bxg5 16. Qxg5 Qxg5 17. Bxg5+, after which Black re-positions the knight to c6 through b8. White's advantage lies mostly in the bishop pair and the advanced pawns.
Apart from 15. Ng5, White can keep the pieces on the board with 15. Bd2, after which Black usually executes the previously mentioned knight manoeuvre. There is many more ideas for both sides which I recommend exploring through the lichess openings database.

14...Re8 is a more modest move, making place for the knight to defend h7. White can choose to tactically trade off pieces with 15. Ng5 Nf8 16. Nxh7!? Nxh7 18. Bxh7 Kxh7 19. Qh3 g6 20. g4
14...Bg6 15. Bxg6 fxg6!? trades off the light-squared bishops and opens up the f8 rook. However, after 16. Ng5 Black has to defend their pawn with 16...Re8 not only to defend the pawn, but also to free the f8 square for the knight for if White were to play 17. Qh3, threatening Qxh7 and attacking the e6 pawn.
