IP Adapter (Image Prompt Adapter) is Stable Diffusion extension for using images as prompts. They functions as to copy the style, composition, or a face from the reference image.
It is pioneered by Tencent (WeChat developer) AI Lab as a way to achieve image prompt capability for the pre-trained text-to-image diffusion models.
