Caro-Kann Defence: Edinburgh Variation B12 Caro-Kann → Modern variation
3...Qb6 · Edinburgh variation
This is a minor sideline of 3. Nd2, where Black attacks the undefended d4 pawn.
4. c3 is the main and best move. White defends their pawn with another pawn, forming a solid b2-c3-d4 pawn chain.
4. Ngf3 is another good move. White develops their g-knight to its most active square and defends the d-pawn.
