thumb|Pitch changes of the four tones
Second Tone
Like English question sentence. For example:无(wú ㄨˊ)
Third Tone
Start at a low pitch, make your voice slightly creaky, and stop there. For example:女(nǚ ㄋㄩˇ)
Fourth Tone
Sounding much like a firm command or an angry "No!" For example:辣(là ㄌㄚˋ)
Neutral Tone
Pronounced very quickly, softly, and without emphasis. For example:麼(me ㄇㄜ˙)
Writing the Tone
Different from Pinyin, if the tone is not written, it is usually the first tone. To mark the other tone we use these symbols: ˊ(second tone), ˇ (third tone), ˋ (fourth tone), ˙(neutral tone).
