Conlang/Intermediate/Sounds

Reference material by Wikibooks contributors. This retains its source identity and is not 411 news reporting.

All spoken languages use systems of sounds (called a phonology), and most of these aren't anything like English, including, hopefully, the conlang that you'll soon have. This section should help you. What's in this section? The parts of this section are: Phones: The difference between phones and phonemes, and between consonants and vowels. Syllables: The units of sound that can be pronounced. Phonotactics: How sounds can be arranged into syllables. Sandhi rules: How morphemes may change their sound because of their neighbors.
