Argentina
The first postage meter was placed into use in 1926. All stamps contain “REPUBLICA ARGENTINA” in the frank. Instead of a meter number they contain a permit number. The permit number usually has prefix “PERMISO” or “PERM.” with “No.” or “N” and sometimes occurs without prefix.
The stamps are grouped according to appearance and function as follows:
A - Upright oval
B - Small upright rectangle with simulated perforation border, value in lower left corner with emanating rays
C - Wide rectangle with pillars at sides
D - Upright rectangle with simulated perforation outer and straight line inner border, REPUBLICA ARGENTINA in arc, FRANQUEO/PAGADO at bottom, P# below value
E - Horizontal rectangle with single, straight line border, FRANQUEO PAGADO at bottom, P# below REPUBLICA ARGENTINA at top, simple straight line design at sides
F - Upright rectangle with simulated perforation outer and straight-line inner border, post horn at top under curved REPUBLICA ARGENTINA.
G - No outer frame. REPUBLICA and ARGENTINA in curved ribbons flanking seal at top. Leaves in upper corners. Ribbon and leaves at sides
H - Upright rectangle with single-line simulated perforation border. Garland across sides and bottom with vertical lines beneath.
I - No outer frame. Leaves surround entire design except for opening at bottom
J - Horizontal frameless design with ornament between TM and value box
K - Upright design with single straight-line frame line. Side design is a stylized wheat stalk with ribbon
L - Upright rectangle with single-line simulated perforation border. REPUBLICA/ ARGENTINA at top, “CORREO” curved at bottom above P#
M - No outer frame. REPUBLICA ARGENTINA in curved ribbon across top. Filigree design at left, Coat of Arms at right
N - Horizontal design consisting of nothing but horizontal lines and text
P - Simple single, straight-line rectangle without ornament except for post horn on some numbers
Q - No outer frame. REPUBLICA ARGENTINA in straight ribbon at top, Column of ornaments and value indicator at left, designs showing map of country or head of Liberty at right
R - Upright rectangle with double straight-line frame. Post horn under curved REPUBLICA ARGENTINA at top
S - Simple single, straight-line horizontal rectangle with panels at top, bottom and sides
