A Traveler's Guide to the World of Pokémon/Kanto/Cerulean Cave

Reference material by Wikibooks contributors. This retains its source identity and is not 411 news reporting.

The Cerulean Cave is a cave in Pokémon Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, FireRed, and LeafGreen. While the cave is actually called Cerulean Cave in all games it is in, the Nintendo Power Player's Guides for Red, Blue, and Yellow call it Unknown Dungeon, and as such many people call it that instead of Cerulean Cave. Access Access to Cerulean Cave is denied until the player defeats the Elite Four and the champion. In it, Mewtwo (a Pokémon cloned from Mew) resides. The player only has one chance to capture it. Mewtwo is a Psychic type with very high base stats, and is at level 70 when the player fights it. Thus, a popular technique for catching it is to use the Master Ball (a Poké Ball that never fails; only one is found per game), rather than defeating Mewtwo otherwise. In FireRed and LeafGreen one has to get the Ruby and Sapphire and give them to Celio in the Sevii Islands in order to move the man in front of the Cerulean Cave entrance. In Gold and Silver, the entrance to Cerulean Cave is no longer there. A hiker in Cerulean City tells you that a nearby cave had caved in recently. Mewtwo must have either fled or been caught before the cave collapsed, because in the water nearby is the Berserk Gene, a hold item that is a reference to the genetically engineered Mewtwo. Pokémon that appear These Pokémon appear in the Cerulean Cave in the following games: Red/Blue Sandslash (Blue only) Arbok (Red only) Hypno Dodrio Ditto Golbat Rhydon Magneton Chansey Marowak Kadabra Venomoth Electrode Raichu Parasect Wigglytuff Mewtwo (one shot to catch) (basement) (Lv. 70) Kingler, Slowbro, Seaking, Seadra (Super Rod only) (Lv. 23) Goldeen, Poliwag (Good Rod only) (Lv. 10) Magikarp (Old Rod only) (Lv. 5) Yellow Sandslash Golbat Gloom Parasect Venomoth Weepinbell Graveler Ditto Rhyhorn Rhydon Lickitung Chansey Mewtwo (one shot to catch) (basement) (Lv. 70) Goldeen, Seaking (Super Rod only) Goldeen, Poliwag (Good Rod only) Magikarp (Old Rod only) FireRed/LeafGreen Primeape Machoke Kadabra Golbat Magneton Electrode Ditto Wobbuffet Parasect Mewtwo (one shot to catch) (basement) (Lv. 70) Slowpoke, Slowbro (surfing only in LeafGreen) Psyduck, Golduck (surfing only in FireRed) Japanese versions The original Japanese versions of Pokémon Green and Red had a different Cerulean Cave, but it was completely redone for the North American release of Pokémon Red and Blue. This is reflected in the fact some North American players were confused by the Cave's layout in FireRed and LeafGreen, due to its design being identical to the original Japanese.
