The season covers the period from 1 July 1893 to 30 June 1894. The club's first match in the Football League was against Middlesbrough Ironopolis on 2 September 1893. Liverpool won 2–0, Malcolm McVean scoring their first goal in league football.http://www.lfchistory.net/SeasonArchive/Game/4462 Middlesbrough Ironopolis 0 - 2 Liverpool LFC History 13 December 2012 Their first season in the Football League was a success. Liverpool finished the season unbeaten in 28 matches, 22 of which they won. Their success meant they finished top of the Second Division, but as there was no automatic promotion to the First Division, they were entered into the 'Test Match system'. Victory over Newton Heath in the test match secured promotion to the First Division. Squad statistics One of the players, James Henderson from Scotland, was born in 1870 and played one match as a striker for Liverpool, after he was signed from a Scottish club named Annbank.http://www.lfchistory.net/Players/Player/Profile/662 James Henderson LFC History 30 January 2012 Appearances and goals Division 2 FA Cup Test Match ENG MF Harry Bradshaw 14 8 3 2 1 1 ENG FW Gerard Dewhurst 1 0 0 0 0 0 SCO FW Douglas Dick 11 2 0 0 0 0 SCO FW John Givens 5 3 0 0 0 0 SCO MF Patrick Gordon 21 6 3 0 1 1 SCO DF Andrew Hannah 24 1 3 0 1 0 SCO FW Davy Henderson 20 10 2 2 1 0 SCO MF James Henderson 1 0 0 0 0 0 WAL DF Abel Hughes 1 0 0 0 0 0 SCO MF Jim McBride 25 3 2 0 1 0 SCO MF John McCartney 16 1 1 0 1 0 SCO DF Duncan McLean 28 5 3 0 1 0 ENG GK Billy McOwen 23 0 3 0 0 0 SCO DF Joe McQue 26 2 3 1 1 0 SCO FW Hugh McQueen 27 10 2 0 1 0 SCO GK Matt McQueen 22 1 3 0 1 0 SCO MF Malcolm McVean 22 9 3 1 1 0 ENG MF Jimmy Stott 15 14 2 0 0 0 ENG FW Albert Worgan 1 2 0 0 0 0 |} Friendlies 1893 9 6 y Friendly https://www.lfchistory.net/SeasonArchive/FriendlyGame/8519 Liverpool 1–0 Newton Heath McQueen Anfield Liverpool 2,000 W 1893 9 20 y Friendly https://www.lfchistory.net/SeasonArchive/FriendlyGame/8523 Newton Heath 0–3 Liverpool Gordon McQueen McVean Bank Street Clayton 1,000 W 1893 10 3 y Friendly https://www.lfchistory.net/SeasonArchive/FriendlyGame/8517 Darwen 1–3 Liverpool McCartney McQueen Barley Bank Darwen 1,000 W 1893 10 16 y Friendly https://www.lfchistory.net/SeasonArchive/FriendlyGame/8521 Preston North End 3–0 Liverpool Deepdale Preston 1,000 L 1893 12 16 y Friendly https://www.lfchistory.net/SeasonArchive/FriendlyGame/8522 Nottingham Forest 0–3 Liverpool Gordon Bradshaw McVean Town Ground Nottingham 5,000 W 1893 12 23 y Friendly https://www.lfchistory.net/SeasonArchive/FriendlyGame/8525 Ardwick 2–6 Liverpool Bennett Whittle McBride McVean Stott Hyde Road Manchester 3,000 W 1893 12 25 y Friendly https://www.lfchistory.net/SeasonArchive/FriendlyGame/8526 Accrington Stanley 1–0 Liverpool Crown Ground Accrington 1,200 Abandoned after 25 minutes due to bad weather.
