A total of five teams participated in the league, all of them were professional teams. The season began on 26 March 1988 and ended on 12 November 1988. The season was operated in single stage, and every team played each other six times. This season caused a controversy over the selection of the Most Valuable Player. The majority opinion of outsiders was that Lee Kee-keun should receive the MVP Award, but the Korean Professional Football Committee chose Park Kyung-hoon, who played only 12 games in the league due to his schedule in the national team. Park also tried to return the award, but the committee rejected his decision.https://newslibrary.naver.com/viewer/index.nhn?articleId=1988111400209212008&editNo=2&printCount=1&publishDate=1988-11-14&officeId=00020&pageNo=12&printNo=20654&publishType=00020 ko:「朴景勲 MVP 선정」후유증 심각 ko Naver The Dong-a Ilbo 1988-11-14 2021-01-19 League table main WDL 5 Result 2 PSA POSCO Atoms C HHI Hyundai Horang-i YKE Yukong Elephants LGH Lucky-Goldstar Hwangso DWR Daewoo Royals 9 9 6 28 25 10 5 9 30 25 8 8 8 25 24 6 11 7 22 29 8 5 11 28 30 complete RSSSF Top scorers RankScorerClubGoals1KOR Lee Kee-keunPOSCO Atoms122KOR Ham Hyun-giHyundai Horang-i103KOR Shin Dong-chulYukong Elephants84KOR Hwangbo KwanYukong Elephants7KOR Lee Hak-jongHyundai Horang-i Awards Main awards AwardWinnerClubMost Valuable PlayerKOR Park Kyung-hoonPOSCO AtomsTop goalscorerKOR Lee Kee-keunPOSCO AtomsTop assist providerKOR Kim Jong-booPOSCO AtomsRookie of the YearKOR Hwangbo KwanYukong ElephantsManager of the YearKOR Lee Hoe-taikPOSCO AtomsBest GoalkeeperKOR Oh Yun-kyoHyundai Horang-iFighting Spirit AwardKOR Choi Jin-hanLucky-Goldstar HwangsoKOR Son Hyung-sunDaewoo RoyalsExemplary AwardKOR Choi Kang-heeHyundai Horang-iBest RefereeKOR Lee Do-ha— Source: Best XI PositionWinnerClubGoalkeeperKOR 1984 Oh Yun-kyoHyundai Horang-iDefendersKOR 1984 Choi Kang-heeHyundai Horang-iKOR 1984 Choi Tae-jinDaewoo RoyalsKOR 1984 Son Hyung-sunDaewoo RoyalsKOR 1984 Kang Tae-sikPOSCO AtomsMidfieldersKOR 1984 Choi Jin-hanLucky-Goldstar HwangsoKOR 1984 Kim Sang-hoPOSCO AtomsKOR 1984 Hwangbo KwanYukong ElephantsForwardsKOR 1984 Lee Kee-keunPOSCO AtomsKOR 1984 Ham Hyun-giHyundai Horang-iKOR 1984 Shin Dong-chulYukong Elephants Source:https://newslibrary.naver.com/viewer/index.nhn?articleId=1988111400209212009&editNo=2&printCount=1&publishDate=1988-11-14&officeId=00020&pageNo=12&printNo=20654&publishType=00020 ko:油公"浦鐵엔 안진다" The Dong-a Ilbo Naver ko 14 November 1988 2021-01-08 References External links RSSSF Category:K League seasons 1 South Korea South Korea
