Francis "Buddy" O'Grady coached it in his second season as head coach. The team was an independent and moved to Uline Arena in Washington, D.C., for its home games this season. It finished with a record of 8–14 and had no post-season play. Season recap The 1950–51 team was a youthful one, with a roster that included only one senior and four juniors, the other ten players being sophomores. Seven of those sophomores had arrived on the varsity team from a freshman team that had had great success the previous year, posting a 16–1 record.Georgetown Basketball History Project: The Top 100: 53. He followed that by scoring in double figures in 16 of the next 17 games, including 25 points against Long Island and another 25-point performance against American in the next game five days later. He missed the last four games of the season due to illness, but averaged a team-leading 16.1 points per game for the season. Sophomore center Hugh Beins scored in double figures in seven of eight games at midseason and had a season-high 19 points against Mount St. Mary's. His performance tailed off later in the season, but he would return for two more years as one of the top players in Georgetown history. The young and inexperienced team started with an 8–6 record but ended the season with an eight-game losing streak that gave it a final record of 8–14. It had no post-season play and was not ranked in the Top 20 in the Associated Press Poll or in the Top 30 in the Coaches' Poll – which began this season – at any time.1950-51 Men's Independent Season Summary https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/conferences/independent/men/1951.html 2025-06-09 College Basketball at Sports-Reference.com en1950-51 Men's College Basketball AP Polls https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/seasons/men/1951-polls.html 2025-06-09 College Basketball at Sports-Reference.com en No Georgetown men's basketball team had played its home games on campus since the 1926–27 team had used Ryan Gymnasium as its home court, but the 1950–51 squad was the last Georgetown men's basketball team to play its home games in an off-campus facility until the 1981–82 team moved to the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland. It was not until 1952 after the completion of the 1951–52 season that the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) ruled that colleges and universities could no longer count games played against non-collegiate opponents in their annual won-loss records.http://www.hoyabasketball.com/records/opponents-nc.htm The Georgetown Basketball History Project: Non-Collegiate Opponents 2014-01-01 https://web.archive.org/web/20170212123107/http://www.hoyabasketball.com/records/opponents-nc.htm 2017-02-12 dead SourcesGeorgetown Basketball History Project: Record Book http://www.hoyabasketball.com/records/bb-1950.htm https://web.archive.org/web/20131112045930/http://www.hoyabasketball.com/records/bb-1950.htm November 12, 2013 June 9, 2025http://www.hoyabasketball.com/opponents.htm The Georgetown Basketball History Project: Records vs. All Opponents 2014-01-01 2013-11-03 https://web.archive.org/web/20131103211101/http://www.hoyabasketball.com/opponents.htm dead 1950-51 Georgetown Hoyas Men's Schedule and Results https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/georgetown/men/1951-schedule.html 2025-06-09 College Basketball at Sports-Reference.com en2012-13 Georgetown Men's Basketball Media Guide http://issuu.com/dpulupa/docs/2012-13_mbb_media_guide https://web.archive.org/web/20241203193635/https://issuu.com/dpulupa/docs/2012-13_mbb_media_guide December 3, 2024 June 9, 2025 no yes no no no |- !colspan=9 style="background:#002147; color:#8D817B;"| Regular Season Tue., Dec. 5, 1950 no w Geneva Uline Arena Washington, DC no 92–61 1-0 Fri., Dec. 8, 1950 no w Saint Francis Uline Arena Washington, DC no 80–59 2-0 Mon., Dec. 11, 1950 no w yes Mount St. Mary's Alumni Gymnasium Emmitsburg, MD no 87–62 3-0 Thu., Dec. 14, 1950 no l yes Long Island Madison Square Garden New York, NY no 66–75 3-1 Tue., Dec. 19, 1950 no w American Uline Arena Washington, DC no 65–62 4-1 Tue., Jan. 9, 1951 no l George Washington Uline Arena Washington, DC no 80–90 4-2 Sat., Jan. 13, 1951 no l yes Maryland Ritchie Coliseum College Park, MD no 47–58 4-3 Sat., Jan. 20, 1951 no l yes Pennsylvania Palestra Philadelphia, PA no 76–92 4-4 Wed., Jan. 24, 1951 no w yes Navy Dahlgren Hall Annapolis, MD no 58–55 5-4 Thu., Jan. 25, 1951 no l yes Gannon Gannon Auditorium Erie, PA no 62–66 5-5 Sat., Jan. 26, 1951 no w yes Canisius Buffalo Memorial Auditorium Buffalo, NY no 87–76 6-5 Fri., Feb. 2, 1951 no l William & Mary Uline Arena Washington, DC no 64–75 6-6 Sat., Feb. 3, 1951The Georgetown Basketball History Project states that both the Loyola Maryland game and the New York Athletic Club game took place on February 3, 1951. no w yes Loyola Maryland Alumni Gymnasium Baltimore, MD no 57–48 7-6 Sat., Feb. 3, 1951 no w yes New York Athletic Club New York Athletic Club Gymnasium New York, NY no 62–45 8-6 Wed., Feb. 7, 1951 no l Penn State Uline Arena Washington, DC no 58–70 8-7 Wed., Feb. 7, 1951 no l Oklahoma City Uline Arena Washington, DC no 45–51 8-8 Tue., Feb. 13, 1951 no l La Salle Uline Arena Washington, DC no 74–79 8-9 Fri., Feb. 16, 1951 no l Fordham Uline Arena Washington, DC no 56–61 8-10 Mon., Feb. 19, 1951 no l Siena Uline Arena Washington, DC no 48–57 8-11 Tue., Feb. 22, 1951 no l yes North Carolina State William Neal Reynolds Coliseum Raleigh, NC no 83–101 8-12 Sat., Feb. 24, 1951 no l George Washington Uline Arena Washington, DC no 49–74 8-13 Tue., Feb. 27, 1951 no l Seton Hal Uline Arena Washington, DC no 78–82 8-14 AP Poll Notes note References Category:Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball seasons Georgetown Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball team Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball team
