As usual, the race began with a short prologue and featured a long individual time trial. Besides, riders also had to face several mountain stages in the Swiss Alps, including the Grimselpass, a 12.1 kilometres long climb with an average gradient of 6.6% and slopes at 10%. The race also visited the neighbouring countries of Liechtenstein and Austria. The four top finishers of the 2006 edition, Jan Ullrich, Koldo Gil, Jörg Jaksche and Ángel Vicioso did not take part in 2007, as in one way or another they were all affected by the Operación Puerto affair. Koldo Gil was the only one of these riders who was not left without a team, after Ullrich was fired by his THR 2007a and Vicioso and Jaksche's team ONC 2006a folded. Teams Twenty-one teams of eight riders started the race:http://autobus.cyclingnews.com/road/2007/jun07/suisse07?id=startlist Start list Cycling News 14 February 2020 20em margin-right:20%; TMO 2007a CSC 2007 LIQ 2007 ALM 2007 SDV 2007 DSC 2007 RAB 2007 AST 2007 MOV 2007 QST 2007 LOT 2007 LAM 2007 GST 2007 C.A 2007 DEN 2007 EUS 2007 FDJ 2007 COF 2007 COS 2007 MRM 2007 VOL 2007 Route +Stage characteristics and winnershttp://autobus.cyclingnews.com/road/2007/jun07/suisse07?id=stages 71st Tour de Suisse – PT Cycling News 14 February 2020http://www.bikeraceinfo.com/stageraces/Switzerland/2007-swiss-tour.html Tour of Switzerland (Tour de Suisse) Pro Tour, June 16 - June 24, 2007 BikeRaceInfo 14 February 2020 Stage Date Course Distance Type Winner 1 16 June Olten 3.8 km 1 on 20px|link=|alt= Individual time trial Fabian Cancellara SUI 2 17 June Olten to Luzern 157.2 km 1 on 20px|alt=|link= Hilly stage Erik Zabel GER 3 18 June Brunnen to Nauders 228.7 km 1 on 20px|alt=|link= Mountain stage Alessandro Proni ITA 4 19 June Nauders to Triesenberg–Malbun 167.2 km 1 on 20px|alt=|link= Medium mountain stage Fränk Schleck LUX 5 20 June Vaduz to Giubiasco 192.8 km 1 on 20px|alt=|link= Mountain stage Robbie McEwen AUS 6 21 June Giubiasco to Crans-Montana 95 km mi on"nb" The stage was originally planned to be 190.8 km 1 on, but was shortened due to a hailstorm.http://autobus.cyclingnews.com/road/2007/jun07/suisse07?id=live/suisse076 Stage 6 – June 21: Giubiasco – Crans-Montana, 190.8km Complete live report Cycling News 14 February 2020 20px|alt=|link= Medium mountain stage Thomas Dekker NED 7 22 June Ulrichen to Grimselpass 125.7 km 1 on 20px|alt=|link= Mountain stage Vladimir Gusev RUS 8 23 June Innertkirchen to Schwarzsee 152.5 km 1 on 20px|alt=|link= Hilly stage Rigoberto Urán COL 9 24 June Bern 33.7 km 1 on 20px|link=|alt= Individual time trial Fabian Cancellara SUI Stages Stage 1 16 June 2007 – Olten, 3.8 km mi on (ITT) Stage 1 Result & General Classification after Stage 1http://autobus.cyclingnews.com/road/2007/jun07/suisse07?id=results/suisse071 Stage 1 – June 16: Olten – Olten TT, 3.8km Cycling News 14 February 2020 CyclistTeamTimeUCI ProTourPoints1Fabian Cancellara SUISAX 2007 4' 20" 3 pts2Daniele Bennati ITALAM 2007 + 8" 2 pts3Iván Gutiérrez ESPGCE 2007 + 9" 1 pt4William Bonnet FRAC.A 2007 + 10" 5Stuart O'Grady AUSSAX 2007 + 10" Stage 2 17 June 2007 – Olten to Luzern, 158.6 km mi on Stage 2 resulthttp://autobus.cyclingnews.com/road/2007/jun07/suisse07?id=results/suisse072 Stage 2 – June 17: Olten – Luzern, 157.2km Cycling News 14 February 2020 CyclistTeamTimeUCI ProTourPoints1Erik Zabel GERMRM 2007 4h 04' 56" 3 pts2Daniele Bennati ITALAM 2007 s.t. 2 pts3Fabian Cancellara SUISAX 2007 s.t. 1 pt4Stuart O'Grady AUSSAX 2007 s.t. 5Murilo Fischer BRALIQ 2007 s.t.
