The match was contested by Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona on 25 May 2012 at the Vicente Calderón in Madrid. This was the clubs' first meeting in the final since 2009 where Barcelona won the trophy with a 4–1 victory. The same teams, the two with the most cup wins in the history of the competition, also met in the Round of 16 of the 2010–11 edition, in which Barça prevailed on away goals after two draws. Barcelona lifted the trophy for the record-extending 26th time in their history with a 3–0 victory.https://www.theguardian.com/football/2012/may/25/barcelona-athletic-copa-del-rey Barcelona end Guardiola era with Copa del Rey win over Athletic Bilbao Sid Lowe The Guardian 26 May 2012 13 April 2021https://www.theguardian.com/football/2012/may/25/barcelona-athletic-copa-del-rey Pep Guardiola's final game: Barcelona win Copa del Rey BBC Sport 26 May 2012 13 April 2021 Road to the final 2011–12 Copa del Rey Athletic BilbaoRoundBarcelonaOpponentResultLegsOpponentResultLegsReal Oviedo2–00–1 away; 1–0 homeRound of 32L'Hospitalet10–00–1 away; 9–0 homeAlbacete4–00–0 away; 4–0 homeRound of 16Osasuna6–14–0 home; 1–2 awayMallorca3–02–0 home; 0–1 awayQuarter-finalsReal Madrid4–31–2 away; 2–2 homeMirandés8–31–2 away; 6–2 homeSemi-finalsValencia3–11–1 away; 2–0 home Match 25 May 2012 22:00 CEST Athletic Bilbao 0–3 Report Barcelona Pedro 3 25Messi 20 Vicente Calderón, Madrid 54,850 David Fernández Borbalán (Andalusia) _ath1112 _ath1112 _ath1112 _ath1112 _ath1112long ff0000 FF0000 FF0000 000000 ff0000 Athletic Bilbao _fcbarcelona1112h _fcbarcelona1112H(2) _fcbarcelona1112h _fcbarcelona1112h _fcbarcelona1112h 0000BF 0000BF 0000BF 0000BF 0000BF Barcelona GK 1 ESP Gorka IraizozRB 15ESP Andoni Iraola (c) 43CB 23ESP Borja EkizaCB 5 VEN Fernando AmorebietaLB 3 ESP Jon AurtenetxeCM 24ESP Javi MartínezCM 10ESP Óscar de Marcos 47RW 28ESP Ibai GómezAM 19ESP Iker MuniainLW 14ESP Markel Susaeta 40 46CF 9 ESP Fernando Llorente 73Substitutes:GK 13ESP Raúl Fernández DF 6 ESP Mikel San José MF 11ESP Igor GabilondoMF 17ESP Iñigo Pérez 47MF 18ESP Carlos Gurpegui MF 21ESP Ander Herrera 46FW 2 ESP Gaizka Toquero 73Manager:ARG Marcelo Bielsa300px GK 13ESP José Manuel PintoRB 35ESP Martín MontoyaCB 3 ESP Gerard Piqué CB 14ARG Javier MascheranoLB 21BRA AdrianoDM 16ESP Sergio BusquetsCM 6 ESP Xavi (c) 66 81CM 8 ESP Andrés Iniesta 71RF 17ESP Pedro 87CF 10ARG Lionel MessiLF 9 CHI Alexis Sánchez 72Substitutes:GK 1 ESP Víctor ValdésDF 32ESP Marc BartraMF 4 ESP Cesc Fàbregas 81MF 11ESP Thiago 87MF 15MLI Seydou Keita 72MF 20NED Ibrahim Afellay FW 37ESP Cristian TelloManager:ESP Pep Guardiola Assistant referees: Raúl Cabañero Martinez (Murcia) Jesús Calvo Guadamuro (Andalusia) Fourth official: Antonio Miguel Mateu Lahoz (Valencian Community) Fifth official: Roberto Alonso Fernández (Community of Madrid) See also Athletic–Barcelona clásico References External links 2012 1 Category:FC Barcelona matches Category:Athletic Bilbao matches Category:2012 in Madrid Category:May 2012 sports events in Spain Category:Football matches in Madrid Category:2011–12 in Spanish men's football
