Columbia ParkJERSEY REDS - Pro Basketball Encyclopedia en-US Pro Basketball Encyclopedia 2014-05-29 2026-10-09 https://probasketballencyclopedia.com/season/jersey-reds/ 6th (1st half); T–3rd (2nd half) Did not qualify Union City Reds The 1934–35 Jersey Reds season was officially the fourth professional basketball season played by the Jersey Reds franchise and their first season played in the city of North Bergen, New Jersey under their proper Jersey Reds name after they previously played their first three seasons as the Union City Reds (two of which were played in the revived version of the Metropolitan Basketball League) in nearby Union City, New Jersey. The ABL entered this season with seven teams competing in their league (with a few teams like the Reds moving their operations elsewhere or otherwise rebranding themselves entirely and both the Bronx Americans and Trenton Moose withdrawing their operations from the ABL this season while the Boston Trojans were added in the ABL this season) to start out the season, though it would later end up with only six teams by the second half of the season due to the New Britain Jackaways and the Newark Mules merging operations on January 18, 1935, to become the New Britain Mules to conclude the season. In any case, the Reds would start out their first season in the city of North Bergen with a below-average 7–14 record for a sixth place finish ahead of only the aforementioned New Britain Jackaways that would technically go defunct by the end of that half of the season, thus continuing the franchise's recent woes when entering the ABL. However, when they entered the second half of the season, the Jersey Reds would perform a fair bit better with an average 9–9 record to tie for third place with the newly-merged New Britain Mules, with their tied placement still having them be behind the two best teams that tied for first place in the second half of the season in the Brooklyn Visitations and the defending champion Philadelphia SPHAs / Hebrews, with the Visitations later being the winners for that particular half of the season. With that in mind, the Jersey Reds would fail to qualify for the ABL's championship series due to them failing to get first place in either half of the split season format of play. Roster Due to information on American Basketball League players being generally hard to find, there are bound to be more gaps and/or inaccuracies found in certain areas on the team's roster spots than usual.1934-35 Jersey Reds (ABL) en peachbasketsociety.blogspot.com Mike Wilk 2026-10-09 https://peachbasketsociety.blogspot.com/2018/01/1934-35-jersey-reds-abl.html1934 Jersey Reds basketball Statistics en StatsCrew 2026-10-09 2026-10-09 https://www.statscrew.com/basketball/roster/t-ABLJER/y-1934 1934–35 Jersey Reds #CC0000 #FFFFFF #CC0000 #FFFFFF Paulie Adamo 1 G 5 11 165 Panzer College 1907-01-11 Hook Anderson 1 G/F 5 11 185 NYU 1912-04-08 Lou Bender 1 F 6 1 175 Columbia 1910-03-08 Al Benson basketball C 6 5 220 Seton Hall 1914-07-27 Rip Collins basketball 1 G 6 1 185 St. John's 1907 Stan Entrup 1 C 6 4 205 No college 1907-03-16 Moe Frankel 1 G/F 5 10 190 No college 1913-01-25 Freddie Gerken 1 G/F 5 9 150 No college 1911-11-01 Buddy Hassett 1 G/F 5 11 175 Manhattan 1911-09-05 Jimmy Lennon basketball 1 C 6 2 165 No college 1906-12-07 Happy Reilly 1 G/F 5 8 165 No college 1907 Jack Reismuller 1 C 6 6 220 No college 1909 Willie Scrill 1 G 5 10 175 No college 1907-09-01 Bob Synnott F/C 6 3 190 Theodore Roosevelt HS (NY) 1912-09-27 Lou Wisner 1 G 5 6 140 CCNY 1910-09-16 Muggsy Miller American Basketball League Standings +First HalfTeamWinsLossesWinning %New York Jewels166.727Philadelphia SPHAs / Hebrews1310.565Brooklyn Visitations1311.542Newark MulesNote1 a a1211.522Boston Trojans1011.476Jersey Reds714.333New Britain JackawaysNote1 a a614.300 +Second HalfTeamWinsLossesWinning %Brooklyn Visitations127.632Philadelphia SPHAs / Hebrews127.632Jersey Reds99.500New Britain MulesNote1 a a99.500New York Jewels810.444Boston Trojans412.250 Notes Note1 a a At the end of the first half of the season, the Newark Mules and New Britain Jackaways would merge operations to become the New Britain Mules on January 18, 1935.
