2016 AFL Women's draft

Fourth women's draft organised by the Australian Football League December 2017 December 2017 2016 AFL Women's draft 12 October 2016 1.00 pm AEDT NAB Building, Docklands, Victoria NAB afl.com.au AFL Women's Nicola Barr (GWS) 2015 (Pre-AFLW) 2017 The 2016 AFL Women's draft consisted of the various periods when the eight clubs in the AFL Women's competition recruited players prior to the competition's inaugural season in 2017. Draftees and signings over the period were required to have a minimum age qualification of 18. Prior to the draft itself each club was allowed to sign two marquee players from any state across the country at an increased salary. In addition, they were permitted to sign a number of priority players with existing connections to the club, and up to two rookie players who had not played competitive Australian rules football within the previous three years. All remaining players entered the draft and became eligible to be selected by any team based in their nominated state-based zone.Herald Sun Melbourne, VIC AFL National Women's League: Marquee system aims to spread the talent across eight licensed clubs 18 June 2016 15 June 2016 Grant Baker Eliza Sewell http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/afl-national-womens-league-marquee-system-aims-to-spread-the-talent-across-eight-licensed-clubs/news-story/cc9e0a207e6ee5a2919a2b9bf0f625cdMatthews Bruce Meg Hutchins joins Pies under new women's priority pick rules http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-08-20/meg-hutchins-joins-pies-under-new-womens-rules Australian Football League 10 September 2016 20 August 2016 Marquee signings On 27 July 2016, each of the competition's eight teams announced their two marquee player signings allowed prior to the October draft.Matthews Bruce Sixteen of the best: women's marquees named http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-07-27/sixteen-of-the-best-womens-league-marquee-players-named Australian Football League 6 September 2016 27 July 2016 Club Marquee player Previous club Previous league Ade Chelsea Randall Swan Districts WAWFL Kellie Gibson Morphettville Park SAWFL Bri Tayla Harris Zillmere QAWFL Sabrina Frederick-Traub South Fremantle WAWFL Car Brianna Davey St Kilda Sharks VFL Women's Darcy Vescio Darebin Falcons VFL Women's Col Moana Hope St Kilda Sharks VFL Women's Emma King footballer Coastal Titans WAWFL Fre Kara Donnellan Swan Districts WAWFL Kiara Bowers Coastal Titans WAWFL GWS Renee Forth Coastal Titans WAWFL Emma Swanson East Fremantle WAWFL Mel Daisy Pearce Darebin Falcons VFL Women's Melissa Hickey Darebin Falcons VFL Women's WB Katie Brennan Darebin Falcons VFL Women's Ellie Blackburn Melbourne University VFL Women's Priority players Under the priority selection rules, Carlton, Collingwood, Melbourne, the Western Bulldogs and Fremantle were allowed one player, Adelaide and Brisbane were allowed two players, and Greater Western Sydney was allowed four.
