Phil Taylor went on to clinch his 12th World Championship (10 in the PDC, 2 in the BDO) with a 7–4 final victory over Mark Dudbridge.Dee Jason Taylor powers to 12th world title https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2005/jan/04/darts.jasongee The Guardian 4 January 2005 5 February 2024 The tournament format remained the same as the previous year, with a preliminary round featuring eight international players against eight qualifiers from the Professional Dart Players Association (PDPA) qualifying tournament. The winners were then to meet the players ranked between 25 and 32 in the PDC world rankings. John Lowe, playing in his last and 28th consecutive world championship, suffered a defeat to Canadian John Verwey. The match went to a tie-break 11th leg in the deciding set. The final between Taylor and Dudbridge looked for a long time as though it would be as close as the previous year's classic between Taylor and Kevin Painter. Dudbridge led by 2 sets to 1, and having fallen 2–3 behind managed to level again. But Taylor then produced a surge to take the next three sets, and the 10th set provided a mere consolation for Dudbridge. Taylor prevailed 7–4 to claim the £60,000 first prize with his 12th title.Taylor clinches 12th world title http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_sports/darts/4142645.stm BBC Sport 3 January 2005 5 February 2024Taylor claims his 12th world title https://www.rte.ie/sport/2005/0103/188806-darts1/ RTÉ Sport 3 January 2005 5 February 2024 Seeds ENG Colin Lloyd ENG Phil Taylor ENG Peter Manley CAN John Part NED Roland Scholten ENG Ronnie Baxter ENG Kevin Painter ENG Wayne Mardle ENG Alan Warriner ENG Andy Jenkins ENG Dennis Smith ENG Denis Ovens ENG Mark Dudbridge ENG Steve Beaton ENG Dennis Priestley ENG Dave Askew Prize money Position (num. of players) Prize money(Total: £300,000)Winner (1) £60,000Runner-Up (1) £30,000Semi-finalists (2) £15,000Quarter-finalists (4) £9,000Fourth round losers (8) £6,500Third round losers (16) £3,500Second round losers (8) £2,750First round losers (8) £1,750 Results no 200 First round (best of 5 sets)26 December Second round (best of 5 sets)27 December SCO Jason Clark 81.44 3 JPN Yasuhiko Matsunaga 72.74 0 CHN Tang Jun 72.45 0 CAN Gerry Convery 84.54 3 CAN John Verwey 83.55 3 Barbados Anthony Forde 80.48 2 USA Darin Young 82.74 2 NED Josephus Schenk 84.89 3 ENG Mark Holden 94.42 3 ENG James Wade 88.14 0 ENG Mark Landers 76.70 3 WAL Alan Reynolds 79.51 2 AUS Barry Jouannet 82.18 0 ENG Wayne Jones 91.38 3 ENG Mark Thomson 81.56 0 ENG Andy Hamilton 85.87 3 ENG Chris Mason 95.51 3 SCO Jason Clark 87.76 1 ENG Wes Newton 81.53 0 CAN Gerry Convery 84.06 3 ENG John Lowe 84.91 2 CAN John Verwey 82.73 3 ENG Alan Caves 77.37 0 NED Josephus Schenk 83.51 3 ENG Simon Whatley 81.93 0 ENG Mark Holden 89.51 3 ENG Peter Evison 77.71 3 ENG Mark Landers 74.89 0 ENG Keith Deller 77.64 1 ENG Wayne Jones 82.30 3 ENG Mick Manning 89.44 0 ENG Andy Hamilton 92.49 3 Last 32 Third round (best of 7 sets)28–30 December Fourth round (best of 7 sets)31 December Quarter-finals (best of 9 sets)1 January Semi-finals (best of 11 sets)2 January Final (best of 13 sets)3 January 200 1 ENG Colin Lloyd 89.17 4 CAN John Verwey 77.29 1 16 ENG Dave Askew 89.48 3 ENG Chris Mason 92.10 4 8 ENG Wayne Mardle 84.32 4 ENG Mark Walsh 82.02 2 9 ENG Alan Warriner 67.86 1 ENG Paul Williams 78.95 4 5 NED Roland Scholten 90.07 4 SCO Jamie Harvey 85.42 2 12 ENG Denis Ovens 98.75 4 ENG Mark Holden 83.81 1 4 CAN John Part 89.80 4 CAN Gerry Convery 87.62 1 13 ENG Mark Dudbridge 86.87 4 WAL Richie Burnett 85.66 3 2 ENG Phil Taylor 102.87 4 ENG Alex Roy 87.13 0 15 ENG Dennis Priestley 77.87 4 ENG Lionel Sams 80.50 1 7 ENG Kevin Painter 87.17 4 ENG Wayne Jones 84.16 2 10 ENG Andy Jenkins 85.22 4 ENG Peter Evison 67.34 0 6 ENG Ronnie Baxter 93.54 4 ENG Terry Jenkins 90.79 2 11 ENG Dennis Smith 86.10 2 ENG Bob Anderson 86.55 4 3 ENG Peter Manley 85.61 2 NED Josephus Schenk 82.67 4 14 ENG Steve Beaton 84.53 2 ENG Andy Hamilton 89.33 4 1 ENG Colin Lloyd 90.91 4 ENG Chris Mason 94.69 3 8 ENG Wayne Mardle 86.25 4 ENG Paul Williams 84.65 3 5 NED Roland Scholten 87.36 2 12 ENG Denis Ovens 88.61 4 4 CAN John Part 91.67 2 13 ENG Mark Dudbridge 96.30 4 2 ENG Phil Taylor 100.31 4 15 ENG Dennis Priestley 91.32 0 7 ENG Kevin Painter 91.50 4 10 ENG Andy Jenkins 87.27 3 6 ENG Ronnie Baxter 88.62 2 ENG Bob Anderson 89.08 4   NED Josephus Schenk 83.40 1 ENG Andy Hamilton 85.96 4 1 ENG Colin Lloyd 83.76 4 8 ENG Wayne Mardle 86.82 5 12 ENG Denis Ovens 84.18 3 13 ENG Mark Dudbridge 91.15 5 2 ENG Phil Taylor 99.72 5 7 ENG Kevin Painter 93.90 1 ENG Bob Anderson 94.33 5   ENG Andy Hamilton 94.46 1 8 ENG Wayne Mardle 90.44 4 13 ENG Mark Dudbridge 90.48 6 2 ENG Phil Taylor 93.54 6 ENG Bob Anderson 91.61 2 13 ENG Mark Dudbridge 90.66 4 2 ENG Phil Taylor 96.14 7 Representation from different countries This table shows the number of players by country in the World Championship, the total number including round 1 & 2.
