The club competed in Division Four, as well as the Milk Cup, FA Cup, Welsh Cup and Associate Members' Cup. Summary Hereford made a good start to the season, going top of the division following a 1–0 win at Tranmere Rovers, but only two wins followed in the next 22 matches and they tumbled down the table towards another seemingly inevitable re-election battle. A 2–1 win over Swindon Town was the catalyst for a complete reversal in form as Hereford went unbeaten in 14 matches, including a sequence of five consecutive wins (their best as a league club at the time) in which 18 goals were scored and only two conceded. They ended the season in 11th place, signing off with a 2–1 win over newly-crowned champions York City.Parrott 1998 77–81 Squad Players who made one appearance or more for Hereford United F.C. during the 1983-84 season Pos.Nat.NameLeagueMilk CupFA CupWelsh CupAssociate Members' CupTotalAppsGoalsAppsGoalsAppsGoalsAppsGoalsAppsGoalsAppsGoalsGKENGKevin Rose46020105010550DFENGIan Bray21(2)10000501027(2)1DFENGIan Dalziel30420104100375DFENGKeith Hicks43020103010500DFENGTony Larkin10(1)11000421016(1)3DFENGCarl Leonard24(1)02010201030(1)0DFENGMel Pejic4401(1)110401051(1)1DFENGChris Price35110104100412DFENGMartin Thomas0000000(2)0000(2)0MFENGGary Beacock13(1)32110210018(1)5MFSCOJohn Black8(1)02000000010(1)0MFENGPaul Butler (on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers)16200002010192MFENGJohn Delve35(1)32000300(1)040(2)3MFENGSteve Emery32(2)11(1)0103(1)01038(4)1MFENGCarl Francis (on loan from Birmingham City)500000000050MFNIRJimmy Harvey43(1)92010411051(1)10MFSCOJohn Hendrie (on loan from Coventry City)600000100070MFWALPaul Maddy10100000000101FWENGOllie Kearns39(2)101010431046(2)12FWENGStewart Phillips4617121052105420 Parrott 1998 238–239Rothmans 1984-85 187–188 League table Fourth Division y HER Results Fourth Division 1983–84 Football League 1 27 August 1983 Aldershot 1–4 W Hereford United Lawrence 77 Beacock 10Dalziel 37Phillips 58 82 Recreation Ground Aldershot 2,001 2 3 September 1983 Hereford United 0–0 D Halifax Town Edgar Street Hereford 3,188 3 7 September 1983 Hereford United 2–1 W Chester City Kearns 37Phillips 59 Allen 26 Edgar Street Hereford 3,480 4 11 September 1983 Doncaster Rovers 3–0 L Hereford United Moss 37Douglas 45Russell 68 Belle Vue Doncaster 3,532 5 17 September 1983 Hereford United 2–1 W Peterborough United Kearns 31Harvey 36 pen.
