It began on March 24, 2006, and ended with the championship game on April 8. A total of 15 games were played. With Wisconsin’s 2-1 win over Boston College, the University of Wisconsin became the first school to win both the men’s and women’s Division I hockey title in the same year, with Wisconsin defeating Minnesota 2-0 in the 2006 women’s tournament. The tournament is also largely remembered for a 4–3 overtime win by Holy Cross over Minnesota, which is typically considered one of the biggest upsets in NCAA Division 1 Men's Ice Hockey tournament history.SB Nation https://www.sbncollegehockey.com/atlantic-hockey/2016/3/24/11278982/remembering-holy-cross-minnesota-upset-10-years-ago Remembering the Holy Cross Upset 10 Years Later November 24, 2016 November 23, 2018 Game locations USA 450 right 2006 Regionals (blue) and Frozen Four (red) USA blue pog.svg 42.642497 -73.752830 left #FFFFFF Albany Times Union Center USA blue pog.svg 44.499527 -88.054903 left #FFFFFF Green Bay Resch Center USA blue pog.svg 42.258998 -71.792663 bottom #FFFFFF Worcester DCU Center USA blue pog.svg 47.927641 -97.071438 left #FFFFFF Grand Forks Ralph Engelstad Arena USA red pog.svg 43.039499 -87.916829 bottom #FFFFFF Milwaukee Bradley Center The NCAA Men's Division I Ice Hockey Championship is a single-elimination tournament featuring 16 teams representing all six Division I conferences in the nation. The Championship Committee seeds the entire field from 1 to 16 within four regionals of 4 teams.
