It was the school's only national football championship. However, in January 1993, the NCAA vacated the national championship after concluding that the program had gained a "tremendous competitive advantage" based on multiple violations, including awarding twice as many scholarships as was allowed, providing extra benefits to student-athletes, and allowing 12 "partial qualifiers" to participate in practice sessions with the football team on a routine basis.NCAA strips Chocs of national title Enterprise-Journal January 13, 1993 6 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/86917849/ncaa-strips-chocs-of-national-title/ Newspapers.com Schedule 1989 NCAA Division II NCAA Division II Football Committee y y y September 2 at McNeese State<ncg> 7 Cowboy Stadium Lake Charles, LA L 21-28 15,233 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/120199160/mcneese-state-turns-back-mcs-scare-for/ The Clarion-Ledger McNeese State turns back MC's scare for 28–21 victory September 3, 1989 March 4, 2023 Newspapers.com September 9 1989 North Alabama Lions North Alabama 7 Robinson-Hale Stadium Clinton, MS W 34-0 4,200 September 16 at 1989 Southeast Missouri State Indians Southeast Missouri State<ncg> 18 Houck Stadium Cape Girardeau, MO W 21-6 5,137 September 23 at 1989 Tennessee–Martin Pacers Tennessee–Martin 13 Graham Stadium Martin, TN W 24-3 3,300 September 30 No. 3 Jacksonville State 8 Robinson–Hale Stadium Clinton, MS L 3-23 7,500 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/114029755/jacksonville-rips-mississippi-college/ The Clarion-Ledger Jacksonville rips Mississippi College October 1, 1989 December 3, 2022 Newspapers.com October 7 at Troy State 18 Veterans Memorial Stadium Troy, AL W 45-7 7,000 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/112921001/mc-rolls-as-henry-bolton-star/ The Clarion-Ledger MC rolls as Henry, Bolton star October 8, 1989 November 11, 2022 Newspapers.com October 14 1989 Livingston Tigers Livingston 15 Robinson–Hale Stadium Clinton, MS W 23-10 6,034 October 21 at 1989 West Georgia Braves West Georgia T–15 Grisham Stadium Carrollton, GA W 48-6 3,150 October 28 1989 Valdosta State Blazers Valdosta State 13 Robinson–Hale Stadium Clinton, MS W 32-3 5,345 November 11 at 1989 Delta State Statesmen Delta State T–12 McCool Stadium Cleveland, MS L 7-17 4,800 November 18 at No. 1 1989 Texas A&M–Kingsville Javelinas Texas A&M–Kingsville<ncg> T–12 Javelina Stadium Kingsville, TX (NCAA Division II first round) W 34-19 November 25 at No. T–5 1989 St. Cloud State Huskies St. Cloud State<ncg> T–12 Selke Field St. Cloud, MN (NCAA Division II quarterfinal) W 55-24 December 2 No. 9 1989 IUP Indians IUP<ncg> T–12 Robinson–Hale Stadium Clinton, MS (NCAA Division II semifinal) W 26-14 December 9 vs No. 2 Jacksonville State T–12 Braly Municipal Stadium Florence, AL (NCAA Division II championship) W 3-0 10,538 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/114030649/chocs-are-champs/ The Sun Herald Chocs are champs!
