Aftermath
The Indian National Congress won 53 seats in the assembly. The party had a pre-election tactical seat-sharing agreement with Hagrama Mohilary, whose supporters won 11 seats as independents and joined the Bodoland People's Front (BPF). The Congress and the BPF subsequently formed a coalition government which returned to power in the 2011 elections. The election broke the cycle of govts changing every election cycle that had been in the state since 1972, with Tarun Gogoi led-Congress party retaining their majority in the house and Gogoi becoming the CM second of his consecutive 3 terms.
