As runner up in 2011–12, Brisbane were looking to continue their run of good form in the League, aiming to win their second Premiership. The Roar were also looking to replicate their Championship success which saw them become the first A-League team to win back-to-back Championships. To replicate their 2011–12 success, they would have to make history by making it to the Grand Final, as no team has ever qualified for three consecutive Grand Finals. As a result of winning the 2012 A-League Grand Final, the Roar competed in the 2013 AFC Champions League for the second time in their history. The Roar were looking to improve on a disappointing debut 2012 ACL campaign, which saw them pick up three points, finishing equal bottom of their group. Following the departure of manager Ange Postecoglou to Melbourne Victory, Rado Vidošić, who had been the clubs' assistant coach for the past seven years, took over as manager for his first full season in charge. After 11 games at the helm, Rado Vidošić was elevated to the Technical Director's role with the club, with former Gold Coast United coach Mike Mulvey taking over as head coach.18 December 2012 Brisbane Roar announces major Football Department restructure - Brisbane Roar FC 2011 http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/brisbaneroar/news-display/Brisbane-Roar-announces-major-Football-Department-restructure/55946 dead https://web.archive.org/web/20121221110522/http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/brisbaneroar/news-display/Brisbane-Roar-announces-major-Football-Department-restructure/55946 21 December 2012 18 December 2012 Football Federation Australia Squad lineup for 2012/13 Correct as of 30 August 2012 – players numbers as per the official Brisbane Roar websitehttp://www.footballaustralia.com.au/brisbaneroar/players Brisbane Roar | Players 16 May 2012 7 October 2011 https://web.archive.org/web/20111007151145/http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/brisbaneroar/players dead https://archive.today/20121230145903/http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/brisbaneroar/news-display/Takahashi-joins-title-defence/48798 Takahashi joins title defence 1 AUS GK Michael Theo 2 AUS DF Matt Smith Captain 3 AUS DF Shane Stefanutto Vice Captain 4 AUS DF Matthew Jurman 5 AUS DF Ivan Franjić 6 AUS MF Erik Paartalu 7 ALB FW Besart Berisha 8 AUS MF Massimo Murdocca 9 Holland FW Stef Nijland 10 BRA FW Henrique 11 AUS MF Ben Halloran Youth 12 AUS MF Julius Davies Youth 13 AUS DF Jade North 14 AUS MF Steven Lustica 15 AUS DF James Donachie Youth 16 KOR FW Do Dong-Hyun 17 AUS MF Mitch Nichols 18 AUS MF Luke Brattan 19 AUS DF Jack Hingert Youth 20 AUS GK Matt Acton Youth 21 AUS MF James Meyer 22 GER MF Thomas Broich 23 AUS FW Anthony Proia Youth 24 AUS FW Nick Fitzgerald Youth 25 AUS MF George Lambadaridis Youth 26 AUS DF Corey Brown Youth 29 AUS FW Kwame Yeboah Youth Successful Trialists KOR Do Dong-Hyun AUS Kwame YeboahInstagram Image http://distilleryimage10.instagram.com/e4bce040e43e11e1b09522000a1e8aa9_7.jpg dead https://archive.today/20121203202433/http://distilleryimage10.instagram.com/e4bce040e43e11e1b09522000a1e8aa9_7.jpg 3 December 2012 Instagram February 2023 Unsuccessful Trialists KOR Bae Hae-Minhttps://archive.today/20121230090231/http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/soccer/roar-coach-rado-vidosic-runs-eye-to-make-call-on-korean-triallists-bae-hae-min-and-do-dong-hyun/story-e6frepmf-1226355215715 Roar Coach Rado Vidosic Runs Eye To Make Call On Korean Triallists Bae Hae Min And Do Dong Hyun Transfers and contracts New contracts Date Pos. However, on 29 November 2012, the Asian Football Confederation cut Australia's initial 2 direct group stage slots and 1 play-off slot to just 1 direct group stage and 1 play-off slot for the Asian Champions League. As a result of that, the Roar's direct group stage was removed, leaving the two time A-League champions with a play-off spot. Since the Central Coast Mariners won the premier's plate as a result of finishing first in the regular season, the Mariners would take the direct group stage slot.http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/news-display/afc-cuts-champions-league-slots/54279 AFC cuts Champions League slots - Football Australia 2013 14 February 2016 dead https://web.archive.org/web/20141101072710/http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/news-display/AFC-cuts-Champions-League-slots/54279 1 November 2014 Despite earning the right to host the match courtesy of Australia's higher points ranking during the Asian Football Confederation’s evaluation process, Brisbane was forced to seek a change of match day for the fixture. With Suncorp Stadium unavailable on the matchday designated by the AFC and a Hyundai A-League match scheduled the next day, Brisbane sought to have the matchday officially changed by the AFC. The club were told in response the calendar had been finalised and could not be altered.
