The CPSU itself remained the only legal party in the country.Nohlen & Stöver, p1654 Voters could in theory vote against the CPSU candidate, but could only do so by using polling booths, whereas votes for the party could be cast simply by submitting a blank ballot. Turnout was required to be over 50% for the election to be valid. Candidates CPSU candidates accounted for around three quarters of the nominees, whilst many of the others were members of Komsomol.Nohlen & Stöver, p1631 Results Soviet of the Union File:Soviet_Union_Soviet_of_the_Union_1950.svg BKB 2 All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) 110788377 2 580 +4 Independents 98 –8 Against 300146 –4 1487 111116373 Nohlen & Stöver Soviet of Nationalities File:Soviet_Union_Soviet_of_Nationalities_1950.svg BKB 2 All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) 110782009 2 519 +10 Independents 119 –29 Against 306830 –19 1619 111116373 Nohlen & Stöver References Category:Legislative elections in the Soviet Union Category:1950 elections in the Soviet Union Category:One-party elections Category:Single-candidate elections in the Soviet Union Category:March 1950 in Europe Soviet Union Soviet Union
