The 1990 Miller Genuine Draft 400 was the 14th stock car race of the 1990 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season and the 22nd iteration of the event. The race was held on Sunday, June 24, 1990, before an audience of 85,000 in Brooklyn, Michigan, at Michigan International Speedway, a two-mile (3.2 km) moderate-banked D-shaped speedway. The race took the scheduled 200 laps to complete. In the final laps of the race, Richard Childress Racing driver Dale Earnhardt would manage to take advantage of a blown engine of the dominant driver of the day, Bill Elliott, and make a late-race charge to the front, passing for the lead with six to go to take his 43rd career NASCAR Winston Cup Series victory and his fourth victory of the season.Higgins Tom June 25, 1990 Earnhardt Back On Track (Part 1) 9 The Charlotte Observer https://www.newspapers.com/clip/121517593/earnhardt-back-on-track-part-1/ March 24, 2023 Newspapers.com Higgins Tom June 25, 1990 Earnhardt Back On Track (Part 2) 11 The Charlotte Observer https://www.newspapers.com/clip/121517622/earnhardt-back-on-track-part-2/ March 24, 2023 Newspapers.com Crowe Steve June 25, 1990 Terminator conquers MIS (Part 1) 43 Detroit Free Press https://www.newspapers.com/clip/121525621/terminator-conquers-mis-part-1/ March 24, 2023 Newspapers.com Crowe Steve June 25, 1990 Terminator conquers MIS (Part 2) 48 Detroit Free Press https://www.newspapers.com/clip/121525634/terminator-conquers-mis-part-2/ March 24, 2023 Newspapers.com To fill out the top three, Morgan–McClure Motorsports driver Ernie Irvan and Junior Johnson & Associates driver Geoff Bodine would finish second and third, respectively.
Background
thumb|The layout of Michigan International Speedway, the venue where the race was held.
The race was held at Michigan International Speedway, a two-mile (3.2 km) moderate-banked D-shaped speedway located in Brooklyn, Michigan. The track is used primarily for NASCAR events. It is known as a "sister track" to Texas World Speedway as MIS's oval design was a direct basis of TWS, with moderate modifications to the banking in the corners, and was used as the basis of Auto Club Speedway. The track is owned by International Speedway Corporation. Michigan International Speedway is recognized as one of motorsports' premier facilities because of its wide racing surface and high banking (by open-wheel standards; the 18-degree banking is modest by stock car standards).
