These were the same teams that had competed in 1960 but without Central Africa and with the addition of Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela. Each team consisted of two players from a country. The combined score of each team determined the team results. The American team of Jimmy Demaret and Sam Snead won by 12 strokes over the Australian team of Kel Nagle and Peter Thomson. The individual competition was won by Sam Snead, with a tournament record score of 272, finishing eight shots ahead of Peter Thomson.https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=bhk1AAAAIBAJ&sjid=TKYLAAAAIBAJ&pg=3077%2C694527 Americans' easy win in Canada Cup The Glasgow Herald June 5, 1961 4 Teams Country Players Fidel de Luca and Leopoldo Ruiz Kel Nagle and Peter Thomson Donald Swaelens and Flory Van Donck BRA 1960 José Maria Gonzalez and Mário Gonzalez CAN 1957 Al Balding and Al Johnston Anisio Araya and Enrique Orellana TWN China Chen Ching-Po and Hsieh Yung-yo Alfonso Bohórquez and Miguel Sala Henning Kristensen and Carl Paulsen EGY 1958 Cherif El-Sayed Cherif and Mohamed Said Moussa Peter Alliss and Brian Bamford Jean Garaïalde and François Saubaber Norman Drew and Christy O'Connor Snr Alfonso Angelini and Carlo Grappasonni JPN 1947 Tadashi Kitsuta and Torakichi Nakamura MEX 1934 Roberto De Vicenzo and Juan Antonio Estrada (a) Cees Cramer and Gerard de Wit Michael Busk and Ernie Southerden PRY 1954 Luis Boschian and Elcido Nari Eugenio Dunezat and Wilfredo Uculmana PHL 1936 Ben Arda and Celestino Tugot Henrique Paulino and Fernando Pina PRI 1952 Pete Cooper and Chi-Chi Rodríguez Eric Brown and John Panton ZAF 1928 Harold Henning and Retief Waltman ESP 1945 Sebastián Miguel and Ramón Sota Harry Karlsson and Arne Werkell Jacky Bonvin and Otto Schoepfer Jimmy Demaret and Sam Snead Juan Sereda and Pascual Viola VEN 1930 Francisco Gonzales and Teobaldo Perez Dai Rees and Dave Thomas Hans Bessner and Willi Jersombeck (a) - denotes amateur Sourcehttp://archives.chicagotribune.com/1961/06/05/page/55/article/french-jockey-gets-english-french-double Canada Cup golf scores Chicago Tribune June 5, 1961 F-3 Associated Press December 30, 2016 The Canadian Stan Leonard, American Arnold Palmer and South African Gary Player withdrew from the event. The Canada Cup was played at the same time as the Memphis Open, an official event on the 1961 PGA Tour. Under a PGA Tour rule, the three, as winners of official PGA Tour events in the previous 12 months, were unable to play in non-tour events where they clashed with official events. The sponsors of the Memphis Open refused to allow the three to play in the Canada Cup with the result that the players withdrew from both events.PGA rocked by disputes over tournament, membership rules 40 http://archive.lib.msu.edu/tic/golfd/article/1961jun40.pdf Golfdom June 1961 December 30, 2016 They were replaced by Al Johnston, Jimmy Demaret and Harold Henning.
