They finished the season in 13th, were runners-up in the 2001–02 cup and reached the Sixth Round of the 2002–03 cup losing to Dynamo Moscow, and were knocked out of the UEFA Cup at the First Round stage after a 0–1 defeat to Rangers over one leg in Warsaw, Poland. However he became suddenly comatose on the way to the airport and died nine days later from a brain hemorrhage.
