International tennis competition 2002 Davis Cup Americas Zone The Americas Zone was one of the three zones of the regional Davis Cup competition in 2002. In the Americas Zone there were four different tiers, called groups, in which teams competed against each other to advance to the upper tier. Winners in Group I advanced to the World Group qualifying round, along with losing teams from the World Group first round. Teams who lost their respective ties competed in the relegation play-offs, with winning teams remaining in Group I, whereas teams who lost their play-offs were relegated to the Americas Zone Group II in 2003.https://www.daviscup.com/en/draws-results/historic-format/group-i/americas.aspx#/2002 2002 Americas Group I DavisCup.com 31 August 2024 Participating nations 30em BAH CAN CHI ECU 1900 MEX VEN 1954 Draw y 4 Second Round Play-offs First Round Play-offs First Round Second Round September 20–22 July 12–14 February 8–10 April 5–7 S ECU 1900 bye Nassau, Bahamas (hard) VEN 1930 3 BAH 2 Waterloo,http://www.northfieldclub.com/story.html NRC story fyxician.com northfieldclub.com 2014-02-22 https://web.archive.org/web/20140302203038/http://www.northfieldclub.com/story.html 2014-03-02 usurped Canada (indoor carpet) CAN 4 MEX 1 bye S CHI Guayaquil, Ecuador (clay) ECU 1900 5 BAH 0 Querétaro, Mexico (indoor carpet) MEX 2 CHI 3 Barquisimeto, Venezuela (hard) S ECU 1900 2 VEN 1954 3 Calgary, Canada (indoor carpet) CAN 5 S CHI 0 Nassau, Bahamas (hard) BAH 3 MEX 2 MEX relegated to Group II in 2003.
