Brentford played in the Anglo-Italian Cup for the first and only time during the season and lost to Derby County in the semi-finals. In February and March, manager Holder strengthened the squad by bringing in former England left back Kenny Sansom, midfielder Alan Dickens, winger Paul Stephenson and former loan goalkeeper Gerry Peyton in on permanent deals.Croxford Lane Waterman 2013 118-119 The signings and the return to fitness of Terry Evans, Bob Booker, Neil Smillie and Wilf Rostron led to a revival in late March,Croxford Lane Waterman 2013 119-120 with Brentford winning twice and drawing three times in a six-match spell. Successive defeats to West Ham United and Watford in late April put Brentford back into the relegation places, before a 3–1 victory over Barnsley at Griffin Park in the penultimate match of the season elevated the club to 21st place. 4,000 Brentford supporters travelled to Ashton Gate for the final match of the season versus Bristol City, knowing that at the very least, defeat for 22nd place Cambridge United and a draw for 23rd place Birmingham City would see the Bees retain their First Division status.English Division One Table on Thursday 6th May 1993 http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/division-one/1992-1993/table/1993-05-06 live https://web.archive.org/web/20160630065519/http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/division-one/1992-1993/table/1993-05-06 30 June 2016 12 November 2016 Statto.com A 4–1 defeat and victory for Birmingham City relegated Brentford back to the Second Division.English Division One results on 8th May 1993 http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/division-one/1992-1993/results/1993-05-08 live https://web.archive.org/web/20160630062724/http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/division-one/1992-1993/results/1993-05-08 30 June 2016 12 November 2016 Statto.com Manager Phil Holder and assistant manager Wilf Rostron lost their jobs in the wake of the relegation and it wasn't until the 2014–15 season that Brentford again played second-tier football.Croxford Lane Waterman 2013 121 League table 1992–93 Football League First Division First Division BRE y Pre-season results 21 July 1992 D Arsenal 1–1 Brentford Jones 22 July 1992 D Chesham United 2–2 Brentford Blissett Luscombe The Meadow 25 July 1992 L Merthyr Tydfil 4–1 Brentford Jones Penydarren Park 27 July 1992 W Windsor & Eton 0–5 Brentford Luscombe BlissettBuckle Bennett Stag Meadow 1 August 1992 L Brentford 1–2 Queens Park Rangers Griffin Park 4,441 3 August 1992 W Slough Town 1–3 Brentford Bennett Smillie Arbour Park 5 August 1992 W Uxbridge 2–4 Brentford Chalmers Ravenscroft Buckle Manuel Honeycroft 8 August 1992 W Woking 1–2 Brentford Godfrey Evans Kingfield Stadium 10 August 1992 L Harrow Borough 1–0 Brentford Earlsmead Stadium Football League First Division results 1992–93 Football League First Division League results summary 7 6 10 28 30 6 4 13 38 50 Statto June 2016 Results and position by round table b Round Ground H/A/H/H/A/H/A/H/H/A/H/A/H/A/H/A/H/H/A/A/H/H/A/H/A/A/H/A/A/H/A/H/A/H/A/H/A/H/A/H/A/H/A/A/H/A Result L/L/W/W/L/L/D/D/L/D/D/L/W/W/W/L/L/W/W/W/D/W/D/L/L/L/L/W/D/L/L/L/L/L/L/L/W/D/W/D/L/D/L/L/W/L Position 23/21/18/8/11/15/17/16/19/19/20/21/19/18/16/16/17/17/12/11/12/10/10/12/13/13/16/14/12/13/16/17/17/18/19/22/19/19/16/17/20/17/20/22/21/22 Home Away green2 Win yellow2 Draw red2 Loss green1 red1 Statto June 2016 Matches August 1 15 August 1992 15:00 L Brentford 0–2 Wolverhampton Wanderers Dennison 47Bull 53 Griffin Park 9,069 2 22 August 1992 15:00 L Bristol Rovers 2–1 Brentford Blissett 50 Twerton Park 5,779 3 29 August 1992 15:00 W Brentford 2–1 Southend United Bennett 7Millen 64 Benjamin Griffin Park 6,431 September 4 1 September 1992 19:45 W Brentford 4–1 Portsmouth Bennett 37Smillie 65Gayle 82Blissett 84 Symons Griffin Park 8,471 5 4 September 1992 19:45 L Cambridge United 1–0 Brentford Abbey Stadium 5,075 6 13 September 1992 12:00 L Brentford 1–2 Luton Town Blissett 51 Griffin Park 7,310 7 19 September 1992 15:00 D Leicester City 0–0 Brentford Filbert Street 12,972 8 26 September 1992 15:00 D Brentford 1–1 Millwall Ratcliffe 39 Allen Griffin Park 8,823 October 9 4 October 1992 L Brentford 1–2 Newcastle United Blissett 78 Kelly 10Peacock 64 Griffin Park 10,131 10 10 October 1992 15:00 D Peterborough United 0–0 Brentford London Road 5,818 11 17 October 1992 15:00 D Brentford 1–1 Watford Putney 26 o.g.
