Meanwhile, the Stanford defense intercepted Beavers quarterback Ryan Katz three times and sacked him four times, one of which resulted in a fumble recovered by the Cardinal. The shutout was Stanford's third of the season and Oregon State's first since 2002. Coupled with losses by Boise State and LSU, the win moved Stanford to #4 in the BCS standings, a position which would assure them an at-large bid in a BCS bowl for the first time (Stanford last won an automatic BCS bid to the 2000 Rose Bowl).http://espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=303310024 Stanford pushes for BCS berth as Andrew Luck sets school TD record November 27, 2010 November 30, 2010 ESPN https://web.archive.org/web/20101201083229/http://espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=303310024 December 1, 2010 dead Orange Bowl FedEx Orange Bowl#5 Stanford vs. #12 Virginia Tech No. 5 Cardinal 7 6 13 14 No. 12 Hokies 2 10 0 0 January 3 Sun Life Stadium 65,453 Tom Walker Mike Tirico, Ron Jaworski, Jon Gruden, Michele Tafoya ESPN yes 1 6:16 STAN Jeremy Stewart 60-yard run (Whitaker kick) STAN 7–0 1 0:59 VT Safety, Derek Hall tackled in end zone STAN 7–2 2 10:22 VT David Wilson 11-yard pass from Tyrod Taylor (Chris Hazley kick) VT 9–7 2 6:32 STAN Zach Ertz 25-yard pass from Andrew Luck (kick blocked) STAN 13–9 2 0:03 VT Chris Hazley 37-yard field goal STAN 13–12 3 8:47 STAN Owen Marecic 1-yard run (Whitaker kick failed) STAN 19–12 3 5:49 STAN Coby Fleener 41-yard pass from Andrew Luck (Whitaker kick) STAN 26–12 4 12:28 STAN Coby Fleener 58-yard pass from Andrew Luck (Whitaker kick) STAN 33–12 4 6:05 STAN Coby Fleener 38-yard pass from Andrew Luck (Whitaker kick) STAN 40–12 yes 2011 Orange Bowl 2010 Virginia Tech Hokies football team Andrew Luck threw four touchdown passes, three to Coby Fleener and one to Zach Ertz, to defeat the Hokies to finish the season with 12 wins and the first BCS bowl victory in program history.
