1989 Dakar Rally 1988 1990
The 1989 Dakar Rally, also known as the 1989 Paris–Dakar Rally, was the 11th running of the Dakar Rally event. The course went through Libya for the first time. A record 209 of the 473 competitors completed the rally. The result of the rally was controversially decided by Peugeot Talbot Sport boss Jean Todt who decided the result on the toss of a coin in order to end the rivalry between the drivers, of which he feared their safety.2009 http://www.dakar.com/2009/DAK/presentation/docs/histo_1979_2007_us.pdf History of Dakar – Retrospective 1979–2007 Dakar 2024-02-15 dead https://web.archive.org/web/20110708222829/http://www.dakar.com/2009/DAK/presentation/docs/histo_1979_2007_us.pdf 2011-07-08 Nugnes Franco 2018-10-02 Todt: 'E' giusto non nascondere un gioco di squadra: meglio dire la verità' https://it.motorsport.com/f1/news/todt-e-giusto-non-nascondere-un-gioco-di-squadra-meglio-dire-la-verita/3187634/ 2024-02-15 Motorsport.com itGuidotti Maria 2021-01-17 'Nel deserto della Dakar con una monetina ho scoperto la saggezza' https://www.ilgiornale.it/news/sport/nel-deserto-dakar-monetina-ho-scoperto-saggezza-1917157.html 2024-02-15 Il Giornale it The rally was won by 1981 world rally champion Ari Vatanen.http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/2399883.stm Vatanen on comeback trail 4 November 2002 BBC Sport 2024-02-15 The motorcycle class was won by Gilles Lalay.
