Members of the Big Sky Conference, the Vandals were led by first-year head coach Bill Trumbo and played their home games on campus at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow, Idaho. The Vandals were 9–18 overall in the regular season and 4–10 in conference play; after four consecutive years in the top half of the standings (with two titles), Idaho returned to last place in the Big Sky. The conference tournament previously included only the top four teams; it was expanded this year to include all eight.https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=wldWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=8O4DAAAAIBAJ&pg=2410%2C2842971 Spokesman-Review Spokane, Washington Idaho at Weber State March 6, 1984 C2 The quarterfinals were at campus sites on Tuesday, and eighth-seeded Idaho fell to league champion Weber State.https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=w1dWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=8O4DAAAAIBAJ&pg=6626%2C3107647 Spokesman-Review Spokane, Washington staff and wire services Idaho comes close, but fails again March 7, 1984 17https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=5cUoAAAAIBAJ&sjid=8YIDAAAAIBAJ&pg=3562%2C2573670 Deseret News Salt Lake City, Utah Hamilton Linda Weber State subdues stubborn Idaho March 7, 1984 G1 Two Inland Empire winning streaks ended this season: after three straight wins over Washington State in the Battle of the Palouse, the Cougars beat the Vandals by thirteen points in Pullman in December.https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=74BfAAAAIBAJ&sjid=ZDAMAAAAIBAJ&pg=4657%2C3416263 Lewiston Morning Tribune Idaho Sahlberg Bert WSU swats away Vandals' win streak December 11, 1983 1B Gonzaga broke a four-game losing streak to Idaho with a seven-point win in Moscow in January; it was senior point guard John Stockton's sole win in the series.https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=6FlWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=8-4DAAAAIBAJ&pg=2510%2C3303385 Spokesman=Review Spokane, Washington Devlin Vince Ruff get rough with GU in tough January 8, 1984 C1 No Vandals were named to the all-conference team; senior center Pete Prigge was honorable mention.https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=lqQSAAAAIBAJ&sjid=gPkDAAAAIBAJ&pg=3507%2C2679805 Spokane Chronicle Washington Associated Press Scoreboard: All Big Sky March 13, 1984 C3https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=6sUoAAAAIBAJ&sjid=8YIDAAAAIBAJ&pg=5159%2C5076210 Deseret News Salt Lake City, Utah Associated Press 2 Wildcats named on all-Big Sky March 13, 1984 D2 Two years earlier as a sophomore, he was the sixth man on the successful 1982 team.https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=8OpWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=Z_kDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6938%2C764362 Spokane Chronicle Washington Van Sickel Charlie The other Vandal March 3, 1982 42 Hired in early April, Trumbo was previously the head coach at Santa Rosa Junior College in northern California;https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=qdURAAAAIBAJ&sjid=oO4DAAAAIBAJ&pg=6723%2C534771 Spokesman-Review Spokane, Washington Devlin Vince JC coach handed the Vandal reins April 2, 1983 13https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=voRfAAAAIBAJ&sjid=5jAMAAAAIBAJ&pg=4644%2C3220750 Lewiston Morning Tribune Idaho Ramsdell Paul Trumbo to continue Vandal excitement November 25, 1983 1C he succeeded alumnus Don Monson, who departed after five seasons for Oregon of the Pac-10 Conference.https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=s-0vAAAAIBAJ&sjid=nu4DAAAAIBAJ&pg=5504%2C3208661 Spokesman-Review Spokane, Washington Monson accepts Duck job March 22, 1983 19https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=iKFfAAAAIBAJ&sjid=DzIMAAAAIBAJ&pg=5308%2C2040256 Lewiston Morning Tribune Idaho Killen John Monson chooses challenge at Oregon: Bids farewell to Idaho after five seasons March 22, 1983 1Chttps://news.google.com/newspapers?id=86ZYAAAAIBAJ&sjid=QOIDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6531%2C5168955 Eugene Register-Guard Oregon Kayfes Dave Monson brightens a dark day March 22, 1983 1C Roster 1983 Idaho Vandals m y yes Stan Arnold 10 G 6 0 185 SR San Jose, CA San Jose CC Tom Stalick 13 F 6 7 211 FR Albany, OR West Albany HS Ernest Sanders 14 G 6 2 185 FR Pasco, WA Pasco HS Chris Carey 21 G 5 10 172 FR Albany, OR West Albany HS Pete Prigge 24 C 6 8 209 SR Vancouver, WA Fort Vancouver HS Zane Frazier y 30 F 6 5 206 JR Los Angeles, CA Fairfax HS Ulf Spears 32 G 6 4 194 FR Portland, OR Benson Poly HS Dan Wright 33 F 6 5 JR   Fullerton JC S Matt Haskins 34 G 6 3 185 SO Richland, WA Columbia HS Mark Hoke 40 F 6 7 201 JR Richland, WA Columbia HS Freeman Watkins 42 G 6 3 187 SR Utica, MI Eisenhower HS Steve Adams 44 F 6 6 190 FR Portland, OR   Pete Reitz 52 C 6 11 220 SO Auburn, CA Placer HS Frank Garza 55 F 6 6 210 JR Anacortes, WA Santa Rosa JC Bill Trumbo (Chapman) Jim Halm (Hawaii) Garry Mendenhall (Santa Clara) Sourcehttps://news.google.com/newspapers?id=v4RfAAAAIBAJ&sjid=5jAMAAAAIBAJ&pg=5216%2C3417639 Lewiston Morning Tribune Idaho Ramsdell Paul Vandals open at home against Pacific November 26, 1983 2BUniversity of Idaho Athletics Vandal Basketball (gameday program) January 26, 1984 14 Postseason result yes |- !colspan=6 style=Idaho Vandals| Big Sky tournament Tue, March 6 6:30 pm yes 8 Weber State 19 1 Dee Events Center Ogden, Utah Quarterfinal 58–67 9–19 5,146 UPI coaches poll Pacific time References 2 External links Sports Reference – Idaho Vandals: 1983–84 basketball season Gem of the Mountains: 1984 University of Idaho yearbook – 1983–84 basketball season Idaho Argonaut – student newspaper – 1984 editions Category:Idaho Vandals men's basketball seasons Idaho Idaho Idaho
