The Gamecocks were led by first-year head coach Jim Carlen and played home games at Williams–Brice Stadium. They finished the season 7–5 overall, but lost the Tangerine Bowl to the Miami Redskins, 20–7. South Carolina had its first two 1,000-yard rushers in school history: Kevin Long and Clarence Williams. Long eclipsed 1,000 yards in the tenth game of the season against Wake Forest; Williams followed him a week later in the game against Clemson. By 2023, Long's and Williams' final rushing totals in 1975 would remain two of the eight highest single-season rushing totals in program history.September 11, 2024 Kevin Long, the Gamecocks' first 1,000-yard rusher, has died https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/college/article292310234.html September 17, 2024 The Charlotte Observer South Carolina's appearance in the Tangerine Bowl was only the third bowl game in school history, and the first since 1969.South Carolina Gamecocks Bowls https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/south-carolina/bowls.html 2024-09-30 College Football at Sports-Reference.com en It would be the first of three bowl games in Carlen's tenure as head coach.South Carolina Gamecocks College Football History, Stats, Records https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/south-carolina/ 2024-09-30 College Football at Sports-Reference.com en Schedule 1975 AP September 13 w Georgia Tech Williams–Brice Stadium Columbia, SC 23–17 51,428 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-herald-sun-grantz-passing-gives-game/139617782/ Durham Sunday Herald Grantz passing gives Gamecocks 23–17 win September 14, 1975 January 26, 2024 Newspapers.com September 20 w y Duke Wallace Wade Stadium Durham, NC 24–16 21,500 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-herald-sun-south-carolina-ends-duke/139603006/ Durham Sunday Herald South Carolina ends Duke streak, 24–16 September 21, 1975 January 26, 2024 Newspapers.com September 27 l Georgia Williams–Brice Stadium Columbia, SC rivalry 20–28 66,944 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-tennessean-georgia-clips-south-carol/134253012/ The Tennessean Georgia clips South Carolina behind Goff September 28, 1975 October 28, 2023 Newspapers.com October 4 w Baylor 18 Williams–Brice Stadium Columbia, SC 24–13 44,192 https://www.newspapers.com/article/victoria-advocate-bears-bow-2413/139617851/ The Victoria Advocate Bears bow, 24–13 October 5, 1975 January 26, 2024 Newspapers.com October 11 w Virginia Williams–Brice Stadium Columbia, SC 41–14 51,574 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-chapel-hill-news-grantz-gamecocks-r/139617432/ The Chapel Hill News Grantz, Gamecocks roll on October 12, 1975 January 26, 2024 Newspapers.com October 18 w y Ole Miss Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium Jackson, MS 35–29 30,107 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-times-and-democrat-grantz-pulls-out/134252204/ The Times and Democrat Grantz pulls out USC October 19, 1975 October 28, 2023 Newspapers.com October 25 l y 20 LSU Tiger Stadium Baton Rouge, LA 6–24 61,445 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-charlotte-observer-lsu-whips-error-p/134250048/ The Charlotte Observer LSU whips error-prone Gamecocks October 26, 1975 October 28, 2023 Newspapers.com November 1 l y NC State Carter Stadium Raleigh, NC ABC 21–28 48,500 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-greenville-news-nc-state-nips-usc/139614610/ The Greenville News N.C.
