The league was a merger of the previous NPSL, which due to the country's apartheid policies were for black teams only, and the National Football League, for white teams only. The other professional league, the non-racial Federation Professional League, continued to function independently. It was won by Kaizer Chiefs, who finished a point ahead of defending champions Highlands Park. Chiefs also won the Mainstay Cup, the BP Top 8 and the Sales House Champion of Champions.South Africa 1981 https://www.rsssf.org/tablesz/zaf81.html 2025-01-24 www.rsssf.orgHistory https://www.kaizerchiefs.com/club/history/ 2025-01-24 www.kaizerchiefs.com en The 1981 Chiefs side is regarded as one of the best in the country's history.KickOff The best teams ever in South Africa https://www.snl24.com/kickoff/sanews/premiership/kaizer-chiefs/the-best-teams-ever-in-south-africa-20130916 2025-01-24 Kickoff en-US main WDL 2 KAI Kaizer Chiefs 23 8 3 64 22 HIG Highlands Park 21 11 2 63 16 ARC Arcadia Shepherds 20 9 5 76 40 HEL Hellenic 19 8 7 73 34 WTS Wits University 16 12 6 56 34 WIT Witbank Black Aces 14 10 10 53 34 PIR Orlando Pirates 13 12 9 45 39 SWA Moroka Swallows 13 12 9 59 51 DUR Durban City 12 9 13 60 60 BEN Benoni United 11 9 14 48 48 DYN Dynamos 9 12 13 48 45 MAM Mamelodi United 10 10 14 32 37 AFR African Wanderers 8 11 15 34 53 LEI Leicester City 7 11 16 39 55 AMA AmaZulu 8 7 19 29 43 LUS Lusitano 5 10 19 39 82 PIL Pilkington United Bros 5 10 19 33 71 STI Stilfontein Big XI 2 8 24 34 106 R R R complete https://www.rsssf.org/tablesz/zaf81.html References 1981 Category:1981 in South African sport Category:1980–81 in African association football leagues
