It was later released as a promotional single in the United Kingdom on November 1, 2010, by Bella Union. Along with the tracks from Teen Dream, "10 Mile Stereo" was recorded in July 2009 at Dreamland in Hurley, New York. "10 Mile Stereo" is a shoegaze track that rhythmically intensifies into crashing drums and cymbals, relying on bossa nova-like elements, distorted guitars and a programmed drum beat. The track lyrically revolves around the outcome of someone feeling apathetic after a failed relationship. Lead vocalist Victoria Legrand called it "one of the most imaginative songs", in lyrical terms. The song received positive reviews from critics, with some calling it a highlight track from Teen Dream. The duo performed "10 Mile Stereo" on Conan on December 20, 2010. At around the same month, the song was used in a Guinness commercial that debuted in Ireland. In 2011, it was sampled on hip hop duo G-Side's track "How Far". By April 2012, the song had sold 40,000 digital track downloads, being the most commercially successful track from Teen Dream at the time. A "Cough Syrup" remix of the track, which was initially released in 2010, was later included on their compilation album, B-Sides and Rarities (2017). Background and composition In September 2009, following the release of their second studio album, Devotion (2008), it was announced that the duo had signed onto Sub Pop, marking their departure from Carpark.
