In their eighth year under head coach Tim Walsh, the team compiled an 8–4 record, with a mark of 5–3 in conference play, and finished tied for second in the Big Sky. The Vikings advanced to the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs and were defeated at Delaware in the first round. For the 2000 season, Portland State played all of their home games at Hillsboro Stadium in neighboring Hillsboro, Oregon. The games were played there instead of Civic Stadium as their Portland home was undergoing major renovations to accommodate the Triple-A Portland Beavers baseball team for their 2001 season.https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-bulletin-renovations-force-psu-out-o/177913413/ The Bulletin Renovations force PSU out of Civic June 9, 2000 July 31, 2025 Newspapers.com Schedule 2000 NCAA Division I-AA The Sports Network September 2 w y 12 2000 Western Washington Vikings Western Washington Hillsboro Stadium Hillsboro, OR 37–20 5,703 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-bellingham-herald-psu-has-too-much-f/177913673/ The Bellingham Herald PSU has too much firepower September 3, 2000 July 31, 2025 Newspapers.com September 9 w y y 12 Hawaii Aloha Stadium Halawa, HI 45–20 50,000 https://www.newspapers.com/article/hawaii-tribune-herald-portland-state-def/177913799/ Hawaii Tribune-Herald Portland State defeats Hawaii 45–20 in opener September 10, 2000 July 31, 2025 Newspapers.com September 16 w y 12 Sacramento State Hornet Stadium Sacramento, CA 35–23 11,853 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sunday-oregonian-dunn-scores-four-ti/177908882/ The Sunday Oregonian Dunn scores four times in win September 17, 2000 July 31, 2025 Newspapers.com September 30 w y 5 Northern Arizona 17 Walkup Skydome Flagstaff, AZ 42–10 6,000 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-missoulian-portland-state-routs-nau/177910045/ The Missoulian Portland State routs NAU October 1, 2000 July 31, 2025 Newspapers.com October 7 w y 4 Hofstra 10 Hillsboro Stadium Hillsboro, OR 40–35 8,824 https://www.newspapers.com/image/348737003/?terms=%22Hofstra%22%20%22Portland%20State%22&match=1 The Missoulian Portland State 40, Hofstra 35 October 8, 2000 29 July 31, 2025 Newspapers.com January 16, 2024 https://web.archive.org/web/20240116004140/https://www.newspapers.com/image/348737003/?terms=%22Hofstra%22%20%22Portland%20State%22&match=1 live October 14 w 2 Idaho State 25 Hillsboro Stadium Hillsboro, OR 59–21 7,041 https://www.newspapers.com/article/longview-daily-news-portland-state-crush/177914299/ Longview Daily News Portland State crushes Idaho State, 59–21 October 15, 2000 July 31, 2025 Newspapers.com October 21 l y 2 Weber State Stewart Stadium Ogden, UT 9–41 4,879 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sunday-oregonian-vikings-take-a-step/177914504/ The Sunday Oregonian Vikings take a step backward October 22, 2000 July 31, 2025 Newspapers.com October 28 l 8 Montana 4 Hillsboro Stadium Hillsboro, OR 21–33 9,681 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-columbian-montana-rolls-past-psu-for/177907880/ The Columbian Montana rolls past PSU for Big Sky lead October 29, 2000 July 31, 2025 Newspapers.com November 4 w y 12 Montana State Bobcat Stadium Bozeman, MT 31–24 5,747 https://www.newspapers.com/image/352305737/?terms=%22Montana%20State%22%20%22Portland%20State%22&match=1 The Montana Standard Bobcats Finish Home Season Without Win November 5, 2000 15 July 31, 2025 Newspapers.com November 11 l 9 Eastern Washington Hillsboro Stadium Hillsboro, OR 24–27 6,119 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-bulletin-portland-state-watches-play/177914837/ The Bulletin Portland State watches playoff hopes likely end November 12, 2000 July 31, 2025 Newspapers.com November 18 w 15 Cal State Northridge Hillsboro Stadium Hillsboro, OR 49–22 2,938 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/14717807/matadors_get_run_out_of_the_big_sky/ The Los Angeles Times Matadors get run out of the Big Sky Vince Kowalick November 19, 2000 D14 July 31, 2025 Newspapers.com November 25 l y y 15 Delaware 2 Delaware Stadium Newark, DE NCAA Division I-AA First Round 14–49 12,945 https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-philadelphia-inquirer-delaware-puts/28384829/ The Philadelphia Inquirer Delaware puts it all together and rolls in Round 1 November 26, 2000 July 31, 2025 Newspapers.com June 5, 2025 https://web.archive.org/web/20250605040451/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-philadelphia-inquirer-delaware-puts/28384829/ live References Portland State Category:Portland State Vikings football seasons Portland State Vikings football Portland State Vikings football Portland State
