The regular season ended on October 4, with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Senators as the regular season champions of the National League and American League, respectively. The postseason began with Game 1 of the 22nd World Series on October 7 and ended with Game 7 on October 15. The Pirates defeated the Senators, four games to three, capturing their second championship in franchise history, since their previous in 1909. Going into the season, the defending World Series champions were the Washington Senators from the 1924 season. This was the fourth of eight seasons that "League Awards", a precursor to the Major League Baseball Most Valuable Player Award (introduced in 1931), were issued. Schedule Major League Baseball schedule The 1925 schedule consisted of 154 games for all teams in the American League and National League, each of which had eight teams. Each team was scheduled to play 22 games against the other seven teams of their respective league. This continued the format put in place since the 1904 season (except for 1919) and would be used until 1961 in the American League and 1962 in the National League. Opening Day, April 14, featured all sixteen teams, continuing the trend which started with the previous season. The final day of the regular season was on October 4. The World Series took place between October 7 and October 15. Rule changes The 1925 season saw the stipulation that the minimum home run distance was 250 feet.MLB Rule Changes https://www.baseball-almanac.com/rulechng.shtml 2024-04-19 Baseball Almanac en-usImagine Sports Editorial Team 2019-05-20 Historic Baseball Field Changes & MLB Rules That Changed Baseball https://imaginesports.com/news/historic-baseball-field-changes 2024-04-19 Imagine Sports en-USA guide to rules changes in MLB (and sports) history https://www.mlb.com/news/history-of-mlb-rules-changes 2024-04-20 MLB.com en Teams LeagueTeamCityBallparkCapacityManager1925 Major League Managers https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/majors/1925-managers.shtml 2025-02-05 Baseball Reference enAmerican League American LeagueBoston Red SoxBoston, MassachusettsFenway Park27,000Lee FohlChicago White SoxChicago, IllinoisComiskey Park28,000Eddie CollinsCleveland IndiansCleveland, OhioDunn Field21,414Tris SpeakerDetroit TigersDetroit, MichiganNavin Field30,000Ty CobbNew York YankeesNew York, New YorkYankee Stadium58,000Miller HugginsPhiladelphia AthleticsPhiladelphia, PennsylvaniaShibe Park33,500Connie MackSt. Louis BrownsSt. Louis, MissouriSportsman's Park24,040George SislerWashington SenatorsWashington, D.C.Griffith Stadium27,000Bucky HarrisNational League National League (baseball) National LeagueBoston BravesBoston, MassachusettsBraves Field40,000Dave BancroftBrooklyn RobinsNew York, New YorkEbbets Field26,000Wilbert RobinsonChicago CubsChicago, IllinoisCubs Park20,000Bill KilleferRabbit MaranvilleGeorge Gibson baseballCincinnati RedsCincinnati, OhioRedland Field20,696Jack HendricksNew York GiantsNew York, New YorkPolo Grounds43,000John McGrawHughie JenningsPhiladelphia PhilliesPhiladelphia, PennsylvaniaBaker Bowl18,000Art FletcherPittsburgh PiratesPittsburgh, PennsylvaniaForbes Field41,000Bill McKechnieSt. Louis CardinalsSt. Louis, MissouriSportsman's Park24,040Branch RickeyRogers Hornsby Standings start American League Washington Senators break National League Pittsburgh Pirates end Tie games 4 tie games (4 in AL, 0 in NL), which are not factored into winning percentage or games behind (and were often replayed again) occurred throughout the season.
